Responsibilities

Position Summary

The Product Development Chef serves as the primary liaison between the Client Services and Account teams to develop and produce concepts and recipes for new products, product enhancement, and product improvement projects. The Product Development Chef is responsible for project management for all Sample Events and Special projects, and creating and maintaining the project plan timeline as well as budget.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

Research and Development
  • Conduct extensive research and experimentation in the culinary sciences of ingredient pairings and preparation
  • Continuously research and maintain awareness of culinary/industry trends, consumer requirements, progressing aids, and food safety developments
  • Source, test, and specify the use of new ingredients, industrial natural flavorings, additives, and processing aids to deliver new recipes
  • Combine innovative and creative ideas and exceptional kitchen capability in developing products with commercial understanding of what will be profitable to the business and the customer/end user


Recipe and Procedure Creation
  • Create and write detailed recipe and step-by-step procedures including ingredients, in-store provided equipment usage, sample sizes, and final presentation for new products or reformulate current products
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, local and company health and safety codes, sanitation, and alcohol awareness standards
  • Document all work according to established procedures and guidelines
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area
  • Shop for ingredients and supplies as needed


Cost and Budget Analysis
  • Provide detailed budget and cost estimates for all test kitchen requests
  • Identify gaps within store equipment and supplies and manage the sourcing, pricing, and deployment of needed assets


Test Kitchen Presentation
  • Create and present client facing presentations to include but not limited to; Innovative recipe ideas, new product uses, assess satisfaction trends, evaluate and address issues and make improvements accordingly, and complete meal solutions to achieve a successful launch


Project Management
  • Assist management as Project Manager in planning and executing special events
  • Communicate project status, progress, issues, solutions, timeline

Minimum Qualifications

Education Level: (Required) High School Diploma or GED or equivalent experience

Field of Study/Area of Experience:

- 2-4 years of experience in Culinary Arts

- Certified and aware of all food safety processes and certifications

- 2-3 years of retail experience

- 2-3 years of Culinary experience

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
  • Excellent written communication and verbal communication skills
  • Strong prioritization skills
  • Ability to complete multiple duties with accuracy shifting from one to another with frequent interruptions and competing deadlines
  • Basic computer skills including familiarity with Word, Excel, and Internet usage


Environmental & Physical Requirements

Field / Administrative Requirements

Incumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of the job. Work may be performed in an office, field, retail store, or warehouse environment. Typically requires the ability to spend 66%+ hours each work day doing the following activities: engage in considerable physical activity, ability to lift and/or push up to 50 pounds, stand on feet for long periods of time, use products or cook food as appropriate for the demonstration, and may be required to work in extremely cold conditions (i.e. refrigerated and freezer sections). Also required to travel and drive. The use of proper safety practices when handling the products and/or cooking is essential.
