Sales Associate: Are you a foodie? Do you enjoy food and cooking? Do you appreciate fine teas, gourmet spice blends, sugars and salts? Are you creative in the kitchen? A Retail Sales Associate is wanted immediately to train for Summer at The Spice & Tea Exchange of Rehoboth Beach, DE. : Seeking full time (32-40 hours) and part time (15-20 hours).

Education Qualifications and Requirements

High School Diploma/GED
College experience and or degree desired but not required.
Previous retail experience
Preferred Skills, Interests & Availability

Proven customer focus with stellar customer service.
Excellent verbal and written communication
Comfort in engaging in frequent contact and communication with a wide variety of people
Friendly, outgoing communication style; helpful, supportive to team members
Ability to utilize simple math skills in measuring ingredients, reading a scale and following recipes.
Ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment and understand/follow priorities
Ability to maintain job engagement/enthusiasm even through some required repetitive/boring product preparation activities
Ability to develop and maintain cooperative and harmonious relationships with a wide variety of people
Familiarity and comfort with using computers; comfortable using Microsoft Office tools and the internet. (If computers really challenge you, this might not be a good fit)
Interest or inclination in the culinary arts, cooking, teas, etc.
Availability to work evenings and weekends.
Interest/aptitude in marketing and store promotion
Interest/aptitude in event planning
Must be available evenings and weekends! Suddenly changing your availability after being hired is grounds for termination.

Being able to recognize things that need to be done (without always getting special instructions) while also communicating well to your team and management is critical to our success.
Follow the dress code! We expect our team to be well-groomed and professional, washing hands at the beginning and throughout their shift pending activities, and wearing clean, pressed, stained free aprons provided by the store. Jewelry should be limited and tasteful. Cell phones are only used on an emergency basis.
Not afraid of a little physical work! Can you lift/carry/unpack shipments in boxes up to 30lbs? Can you climb a ladder to change the lightbulbs? Are you comfortable on your feet for a 4-8 hour shift?


Job Description: A typical day at our store during the high season is fast-paced and filled with variety. In spite of the hustle, bustle and pressure to replenish stock with fresh blends daily, your most important task is to approach customers and co-workers with a great attitude and a warm and friendly smile. We've listed the activities from a typical day to give you a better idea of what to expect. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following depending on business needs. Any interest and experience in marketing an added bonus!!

Proactively greet/welcome customers and invited them to "Open the jars and Smell!"
Provide product orientation/overview to customers at our various product stations: Spices, Blends, Salts, Teas, Sugars, Salts, Peppers. This will require you to memorize some introductory lines for each area until you become more familiar with or products
Engage with customers utilizing the sales techniques in which we train you which include suggestive selling approaches that steer clear of strict yes/no questions.
Maintain inventory levels throughout the store, e.g. on shelves, counters and tables, in containers with merchandise and product while assessing store inventory levels; notify management of low inventory levels. We can't sell something if we are out of stock or it's on a shelf in the back room!
Measure, blend, mix, weigh, and bag or jar spice blends and rubs based on our proprietary recipes
Weigh and bag spices, salts, sugars, teas, etc for standard and custom orders.
Process sales through our Point of Sale Register (requires solid knowledge of computers and Microsoft office products)
Adhere to inventory management processes/policies when making, accounting for, and tagging products; includes pricing merchandise with labels, SKU's, prices and locations.
Assist in developing and placing in store signage (requires solid knowledge of Microsoft Power Point)
Obtain merchandise requested by customer, field customer questions concerning location, product information, price and uses for products while establishing rapport with customers to ensure their return and/or word of mouth advertising.
Maintain solid, accurate and current product knowledge by obtaining necessary knowledge to adequately promote product by reading applicable publications and attending necessary training activities.
Comply with all TSTE(R) operating standards and procedures pertaining to the daily operation of the store.
Collaborate with team members and management to plan features and promotions in conjunction with local events

With interest/experience in Marketing, you will have opportunities to market the store and organize/coordinate store events: Chef Series, Tea Tasting Classes, etc.
