Work Schedule: PRN (As Needed/Varies)
POSITION SUMMARY:
Perform phlebotomy procedures to obtain specimens for laboratory testing. Transport, process, and perform clerical duties as necessary for testing on patient samples.
JOB FUNCTION:
Draws blood specimens from patients by using finger stick, heel stick or venipuncture
Collects other Laboratory specimens as required
Labels specimens for identification purposes accurately and enters specimen data into the computer
Greets patients and instructs them in proper specimen collection methods
Answers telephone calls and routes call to appropriate member of the medical or laboratory staff.
Inventories and monitors levels of medical laboratory supplies; stocks work area as needed; keeps work areas clean and orderly.
Must establish and maintain effective working relationships with all customer groups.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
Licensure: Phlebotomy certification course or comparable medical training
Experience: Minimum one-year phlebotomy experience or six (6) months hospital experience preferred
Special Skills & Qualifications: Ability to listen, interact and communicate verbally with customers and ability to maintain attention to details for extended periods of time. Must be able to prioritize responsibilities and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
