About this job

The Registered Nurse coordinates nursing care for the patient and participates in patient / family education. Works collaboratively with ancillary staff and other patient care personnel in maintaining standards of professional nursing practice in the clinical setting. Participates in performance improvement activities to improve patient safety and quality of care. Maintains cultural and diversity awareness when dealing with patients, visitors, co-workers and other customers. Promotes a supportive, team-work oriented environment. Fulfills departmental responsibilities consistent with the long-range plan, mission, vision and values of the hospital.

License / Certifications / Requirements

1. Current Texas licensure with State Board of Nurse Examiners

2. Current BLS (Basic Life Support), ACLS, EFM and NRP certifications are required

Candidates without ACLS, and/or NRP are eligible for employment but must complete certification

at the first available opportunity, not to exceed six (6) months from the date of hire. Graduate Nurses have up to 1 year (12 months) to obtain.

Candidates without EFM are eligible for employment but must complete EFM as follows: Intro to Fetal Monitoring within 2 weeks of hire. Intermediate Fetal Monitoring within 12 months of hire. Advanced Fetal Monitoring within 3 years of hire

Education:

Graduation from an accredited school of nursing required.

Experience:

Six months of experience preferred but new graduates will be considered.

Special Qualifications

Successful completion of hospital, general nursing, and unit specific orientation. Effective oral and written communication skills. Proficiency with computer technology. Ability to work well with others in a team environment to ensure quality patient care. Strong problem solving and customer service skills. Able to read, write, speak and comprehend English. Will be required to work weekdays, weekends and holidays. Due to changes in patient census, may be required to leave early, rotate days off or help other departments.
