JOB SUMMARY:
In a corporate environment, the Safety Manager oversees implementation and supervises safety initiatives, as designed by governing regulations and company goals. The Safety Manager possesses a high level of authority in regards to training & guiding employees based on safety needs, with the goal of eliminating workplace accidents/injuries/illnesses, vehicle accidents, reducing work related injury costs and complying with all safety and health laws and regulations.

Safety Responsibilities
  • Oversee the safety and health programs, policies and procedures impacting the organization plan and implement measures to ensure that work hazards are controlled
  • Review, revise or create current policies and procedures related to the management of our company’s Workers’ Compensation exposures, including return to work programs, timely reporting and investigation of claims
  • Develop and implement ongoing education for organizational safety issues and concerns
  • Investigate all workplace accidents including near misses to determine the cause of the accident, providing a written report of the findings and making recommendations on how to prevent reoccurrence
  • Develop and administer recognition systems to promote safe and healthful work performance
  • Act as Health, Safety and Risk Management interface with internal/external customer functions
  • Identify company safety training needs and develop and coordinate safety training programs
  • Develop annual company safety and health goals
  • Support regional and corporate procurement in selection of appropriate personal protective equipment
  • Promote safety and health awareness through internal company memoranda, newsletters, and specific training programs
  • Serve as member of Safety Committee
  • Understand Federal and State occupational safety and health regulations and monitor regulatory changes as they occur
  • Advise regions and corporate staff of regulatory changes with which the locations must comply
  • Periodically audit practices and records of regions to ensure compliance with company programs and federal/state occupational safety and health regulations.
  • Review injury/illness and non-injury incident investigation reports and follow-up as necessary
Workers’ Compensation
  • Responsible for end-to-end claims management and administration, including implementation and monitoring of claims handling processes that continually improve the consistency and reliability of services provided
  • Negotiate and manage claims with business partners based upon analysis and interpretation of claims results.
  • Monitor lost-time injuries/illnesses and Worker's Compensation Claims
  • Maintenance of claims databases and RMIS systems
  • Review, revise or create current policies and procedures related to the management of organizational Workers’ Compensation exposures, including return to work programs, timely reporting and investigation of claims
  • Accountable for meeting key performance metrics, identifying variances, root cause and implementing action plans for achieving targets.
REQUIRED EDUCATION & WORK EXPERIENCE:
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible professional experience in safety, risk management and benefits administration.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in an EHS discipline, preferred.
  • Deep understanding of applicable federal, state, local and company regulations.
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES:
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate, influence, manage and drive results.
  • Ability to apply EHS and regulatory knowledge to business decisions including the development of implementation plans.
  • Strong ability to negotiate and manage effective change relative to EHS aspects associated with people changes, equipment and process changes.
  • Ability to run an effective meeting with focus on problem statement and results.
  • Ability to build, motivate and lead cross-functional teams to meet project objectives, with a focus on measurable results.
  • Ability to recognize needs and effectively escalate in the event of conflict or misalignment threatens the success of a project.
  • Strong computer literacy skills including mastery knowledge of Microsoft suite (excel, word, power-point) skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to influence and drive message on complex content to all levels of management.
  • Knowledge of environmental, health and safety regulations and industry EHS related standards.
  • Has experience in the area of site security, including management of external security resources and coordination with Federal and local agencies.
