As an IT professional you have expert knowledge in one or more programming languages or databases. Because of your excellent understanding of the entire project life cycle, you have the ability to direct project teams in the gathering, design, and development of complex applications/programs. You get to work closely with and learn from the brightest minds to ensure proper system design. Your role ensures highest quality implementations from design through quality insurance to production. You anticipate hardware and software design needs to take pre-emptive action. Our IT professionals support multiple team members and other project leads in day-to-day activities related to project work.
This position oversees and manages several teams of associates in the development, implementation and ongoing support of existing and new software applications and hardware platforms which may include telecom responsibility. Works closely with end-user groups to ensure operational stability and that new applications meet the practical needs of the company.
The Manager of IT Operations Windows Server Support will be responsible for a team of engineers to support servers across the Home Depot enterprise (stores, data centers, logistics, and remote offices). Desired proficiencies include a strong understanding of: Windows OS (2012), VMWARE, IIS, path management for storage (examples: HBA's, Power Path and SAN surfer), PowerShell scripting, automation development, Windows clustering, monitoring tools (e.g. SCOM), deployment tools (e.g. SCCM), virtual and physical server platforms and backup utilities. All of which will be used to maintain system health and maximize service availability. This role requires mature customer service skills, effective verbal and written communications, ability to communicate complex concepts in an understandable and concise manner, interpersonal skills to influence and reinforce desired outcomes, comfortable interacting at all levels (direct report, peer and executive leadership), strong leadership skills to lead direct reports and grow the team, ability to drive execution, ability to accurately manage financials, ability to organize and document information, a self-starter / motivated to identify and drive improvements without being prompted, proactively anticipate the needs of customers and leadership and deliver, ability to drive continual service improvements for the organization and our customers.
As a Manager, the candidate will be expected to lead and grow a team of engineers to provide complete operational support for the Windows environment, provide escalation support and operational run book processes for Level 1 and 2 command center resources, partner with engineering teams to analyze new technology and transition services into the environment, track and create service metrics for delivery effectiveness and efficiency, maintain and provide status / trending of server and OS health, strategically plan next steps to proactively address evolving operational requirements, manage and leverage third party / vendor relationships, ability to access proposed changes to ensure stability of the environment and reduce risk, operate effectively in high profile / business impacting incidents to expediently restore service, ability to obtain incident root cause and properly implement permanent fixes, maintain resource and other related costs to stay within operating budgets.

MAJOR TASKS, RESPONSIBILITIES AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES -
Builds relationship with key user and store operation groups to identify and resolve business issues.
Manages system development and support activities to meet user needs in a timely and cost effective manner while ensuring the right things get done as per the governance process.
Manages and tracks the progress of multiple development projects. Project management and administration that include work plans, projtrac, resource planning and control, writing status reports, and preparing annual budgets.
Communicates status of development design to supervisors and end users.
Selects, develops and motivates assigned staff.

ENVIRONMENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS -
Located in a comfortable indoor area.
Under regular pressure to meet deadlines, quotas and/or must frequently deal with difficult issues related to people or situations.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS -
Must be eighteen years of age or older.
Must pass the Drug Test.
Must successfully complete any required training or orientation courses.

EDUCATION REQUIRED -
The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a high school diplomas and/or GED.

YEARS OF RELEVANT WORK EXPERIENCE - 5

PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS -
Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS -
1-2 years of experience in a leader/ team lead capacity

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS -
At least eight years of information technology infrastructure experience, of which at least four years should be as a Manager or Lead Engineer.
Strong collaboration, communication, and people leadership skills.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field preferred.
Experience in Windows OS and server platform
Linux/UNIX systems experience a plus.
Knowledge of testing methodologies and approaches (experience in ensuring quality for large-scale projects)
Escalation support (nights/weekends) coverage expected.
Ability to collaborate within and work across multiple teams.
Knowledge of the Windows Server solutions with integration of cross platform technologies. In depth knowledge of hardware architecture and relationships within storage, network and facilities frameworks as best practices shared. Expert technical proficiency in Windows technologies. Proficiency in automated software delivery technology a plus. Some knowledge of Retail applications a plus. Comprehensive understanding of systems, applications, SAN, and/or networks so that practical solutions can be provided that factor system performance, usability, quality, cross-system interdependencies, scalability, and overall cost to develop and maintain. Strong problem solving and analytical skills. Strong oral and written communication skills. Preferred experience using and supporting solutions for the following technologies: Hyper-V, SQL Server, Exchange, Active Directory, NLB, Clustering, IIS, SCCM and SCOM.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND COMPETENCIES -
Knowledge of MS Office and Lotus Notes.
Expert proficiency with the Home Depot software architecture, methodology, and governance process.
People leadership/supervisory skills
Technical skills may include experience with one or more of: UNIX, Informix, COBOL, JAVA, Catalyst WMS and YMS, Korn Shell Scripting, Novell, Netware, nnet, Sequelink, TSO/ISPF/MVS, DB2/SQL, JCL, CSP, CICS TCP/IP, Visual Basic, Networking, and LAN administration.
