We currently have an opening for a Control Room Operator at our Refuse Derived Fuel plant in Portsmouth, Virginia.

Job Summary

This is technical work in the operation of the RDF. Work involves responsibility for monitoring and maintaining the efficient, continuous flow of waste through three processing lines on an assigned shift through the use of computerized control equipment.

Work is performed with considerable independence.

Work is reviewed by supervisor, by operation logs, records and inspections.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Initiates and maintains sequential start-up of the process lines.

Monitors process equipment via TV monitors; amperage, temperature and pressure gauges, and by listening and sensing equipment noise or vibration variations.

Responsible for immediate shut-down of equipment during emergencies.

Assists maintenance personnel with the operation of process equipment during emergency breakdowns.

Maintains maximum production speeds giving due consideration to fuel quality and safety.

Communicates with supervisors regarding production problems and possible equipment problems.

Maintains various logs and provides supervisors with daily reports concerning operations and equipment repair needs.

Assists in the general cleaning and maintenance of the control room.

Performs related work as required and/or assigned.

Qualifications

Knowledge of the principals, practices, and methods related to operation of the plant.

Knowledge of conveyors, shredders, and other production line heavy equipment.

Ability to read meters, monitors, and gauges accurately and to maintain required records.

Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.

Ability to make mixed mathematic calculations involving multiplication, addition, subtraction, and division of whole numbers, decimals, and fractions.

Ability to interpret and diagnose operational conditions.

Must be able to perform all essential functions of the job.

Education and Experience

High school education or the equivalent with six months of experience with the operation of heavy production line equipment. Control room experience preferred or the equivalent combination of work or school experience.
