About this job
The Head Swim Coach will provide personal and social development for lifetime competitive swimming skills for children up to age 14. The coach will develop and improve the technical and physical skills of swimming in each participant. This position is responsible for providing a fun and enjoyable environment while orienting youth to competitive swimming. This is a part time 25 hour week summer seasonal position. Applicant must be available to work evenings and weekends.
Job Functions
1. Exhibit enthusiastic leadership.
2. Prepare workouts consistent with the seasonal plan that are tailored to the variable skills and abilities of swimmers.
3. Serve as a lane coach with other coaches in a majority of scheduled practices and swim meets.
4. Be on deck before swimmers enter the water and throughout the entire practice.
5. Maintain a friendly and approachable attitude.
6. Establish and maintain respectful and effective working relationships with swimmers, coaches, all YMCA staff, and parents.
7. Foster a culture of positive practice and swim meet experiences.
8. Instruct swimmers on proper swimming form and technique.
9. Observe swimmers to detect and correct mistakes.
10. Provide appropriate feedback on performance to each swimmer.
11. Be responsible for coordinating practice times and announcing any appropriate changes.
12. Ensure that after practices each swimming facility is left as requested and that all pool equipment is stored properly.
13. Enthusiastically build interest among swimmers to attend team meets.
Job Qualifications
1. At least two (2) years competitive swim coaching experience
2. USA swimming Level 1 Certified Coach (preferred)
3. 3 years competitive swimming experience (preferred)
4. Energetic, patient and gives simple instructions.
5. Demonstrated strong interpersonal and communication skills
6. Lifeguard, CPR, First Aid and Safety for Swim Coach certifications or ability to obtain.
7. Supervisory experience required
8. Budget experience required
9. Experience with swim meet structure and running a swim meet.
