DESCRIPTION:
This full-time OPS Dental Assistant position is located in the AUBURNDALE Dental Clinic, unit of the Florida Department of Health in Polk County and functions under the supervision of the Dental Assistant Supervisor. The successful candidate will assist the Senior Dentist in providing direct patient care and preventive educational services to the clients of the Polk CHD dental program. This Other Personnel Service (OPS) position has a starting salary range of $12 to $13 per hour. Candidates must be enthusiastic about their dental work, and willing to provide the highest level of care at all times.
Travel as needed to all dental clinics to provide coverage for clinic visits.

JOB-RELATED REQUIREMENTS:
Current Florida Radiography Certification
Dental Expanded Functions
Dental x-ray Certification
FL driver’s license and reliable transportation
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to lift boxes weighting up to 50lbs
Must be fluent in English.
Foreign language skills in Spanish or Haitian Creole are preferred but not required.
MAY BE REQUIRED TO WORK BEFORE, DURING AND /OR BEYOND NORMAL WORK HOURS OR DAYS IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY.
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:
Prepares patient, sterilizes and disinfects instruments, sets up instrument trays.
Prepares materials and assists dentists during dental procedures.
Takes and records medical and dental histories and vital signs of patients.
Records treatment information in patient records.
Exposes and develops dental diagnostic x-rays.
Applies protective coating of fluoride and dental sealants.
Instructs patients in oral hygiene and plaque control programs.
Provides post-operative instructions prescribed by dentist.
Schedules appointments in computer.
Orders supplies and maintains inventory.
Performs related work as required.
Participates in community activities as needed.
