The primary role of the Volunteer Coordinator is to train and oversee members of the Vail Jazz Ambassador group. This individual should have strong communications and organizational skills. Excellent customer service and enthusiasm is also a key quality for the successful candidate. This individual will be the first point of contact for volunteer coordination and outreach, and training. This is a part-time, seasonal position contract position with an hourly rate of $12/hour.
The Vail Jazz Ambassadors assist with events in the area of: greeters, ushers, ticket checkers, merchandise sales, Will Call attendants. Although some Ambassadors may help with stage crew, those volunteers will be supervised and managed by the Production Manager. The role of the Volunteer Coordinator is to train and supervise Ambassadors on site throughout events, giving them direction and breaks when needed. This individual's primary function at events is to 'float' - supporting the Ambassadors and providing direction and leadership, while filling in spots while they take breaks.
Ambassadors fill roles including ticket checkers, ushers and Will Call attendants. They may also be asked to do ticket sales and merchandise sales.

The Vail Jazz Festival includes over 45 live performances that take place in the town of Vail between June 28 - September 7th. The Volunteer Coordinator will work 4 hour shifts on every Thursday July 2nd - September 3rd. In addition, he/she will work 40 hours during the Labor Day Weekend (Friday, September 4 - Monday, September 7th) for the Vail Jazz Party. Specific hours during the Vail Jazz Party will be decided after hiring. The position also allows for up to 10 hours of time spent in preparation, recruitment or in meetings during the course of the summer.

Vail Jazz is a 21-year old non-profit organization based in Vail, Colorado whose mission is to perpetuate jazz music with a focus on young musicians and young audiences. We do this through presenting the highest quality of live performances that showcase the artistry and talent of great jazz musicians, and through jazz education. Vail Jazz produces a 12-week summer festival and educational programs throughout the year. A small winter series is also offered.
