Summary :

Operate refuse crane to maintain proper refuse flow to operating boilers and to control pit management. Responsibilities include monitoring, lubricating, inspecting, and cleaning refuse crane.

Essential Functions :

1. Operates crane smoothly to prevent excessive grapple swings, eliminate cable jerking, and reduce wear on electrical and mechanical parts.

2. Thoroughly mixes refuse before feeding to boilers to ensure proper combustion and insure that few arches occur.

3. Closes bays in a timely manner and stacks refuse to properly control pit management.

4. Maintains a trench along the tipping floor to facilitate the delivery of refuse from trucks.

5. Operates, monitors and cleans refuse cranes and related area, so that few arches from boiler feeder occur.

6. Performs timely and complete crane inspections each shift.

7. Records and logs inspection data, such as cable cuts and service length of cables, to identify recurring problems.

8. Completes required lubrication of all grease points on the cranes and grapples.

9. Maintains the crane control room and the area on and around the crane deck in a clean, neat, and orderly condition at all times.

10. Reports changing trash conditions to the Plant Control Room Operator.

11. Trains other staff to operate the crane as necessary.

12. Has depth perception and fine motor skills to operate cranes smoothly.

13. Completes the Corporate and Plant Training Programs within the time frame prescribed.

14. Follows standard safety procedures, corrects safety and environmental hazards, and reports them to the Shift Supervisor immediately. Reads, understands, and applies information such as, lockout/tagout procedures, safety rules, job hazard analyses, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

15. Works overtime.

16. Works rotating shifts.

17. Communicates clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing; as well as communicates clearly whether using in-situ intercom system, two-way radio or face to face.

18. Anticipates typical problems, identifies potential or recurring problems, and takes appropriate action. Troubleshoots equipment and assists in diagnosing problem areas.

19. Operates other equipment including, but not limited to, industrial forklifts, manlifts, skid steer type loaders, and other mobile equipment.

20. Performs other duties as requested.

Education/Experience :

· High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or equivalent.

· Mechanical skills sufficient to perform such routine tasks as replacement of becket pins, cable cuts and changes, equipment inspections and preventative maintenance.

Certificates and Licenses :

· Licenses as required by Local, State, Federal, Environmental and/or Health/Safety Regulatory agencies

Supervision Received :

· Perform job duties within prescribed standards. Minimal supervision necessary once varied tasks are mastered.

· Access confined spaces and pressure vessels through standard 12” by 16” manways

PPE Required :

Work in areas under adverse conditions that may require the donning and use of personal protective equipment including, but not limited to, the following with average fatigue:

· Negative pressure respirator

· Positive pressure respirator

· Self-contained breathing apparatus (steel or composite bottle)

· Hardhat

· Approved safety shoes

· Eye protection, corrected or otherwise

· Rubber suit and gloves
