PRIMARY PURPOSE: (Position Summary)
As assigned by the Patient Relations Coordinator, the interpreter is responsible for providing concise, objective and accurate interpretations in person or by telephone for various departments throughout the Medical Center for (put language here) speaking patients. Under the direction of a member of the health care team and other health care professionals, the interpreter will assist in obtaining and/or explaining medical and related information of a difficult and complex nature including family conferences, genetic counseling, contractual agreements and financial screening.
High school diploma or equivalent required
Certification of Vietnamese and English with passing score, Certificate of Successful Completion of Advanced Proficiency Exam from the Department of Public Health, City and County of San Francisco, or equivalent interpreter certification preferred
Minimum 2 years of related experience as a healthcare interpreter or certification/training with 6 months of interpreter experience in healthcare/hospital environment with patient contact interaction
Interpreter must be fluent in English and Vietnamese , who can accurately speak, read and easily interpret Vietnamese
Must have the ability to translate names of body parts and to describe competently symptoms and injuries in both languages
Incumbent must take the Sutter Health Interpreter Competency Evaluation and receive a Basic Interpreter Certification
