About this job

Best Massage Job for LMT - Massage Therapist (SE Portland -close in)

Be at the right place at the right time-
The BEST job for a Career Massage Therapist - Oregon (SE Portland)

Looking for a perfect fit! We will rarely have an opening at our small center. This is an opportunity of a lifetime for the right LMT.
I am an LMT and co-owner of a busy massage and acupuncture oriented center in SE Portland (close-in). I have been doing therapeutic massage for 20 years. One of the things that makes our center different than most is that massage is the primary focus. So most centers are about the Chiropractor or some other type of care. At this center the patients work with you like primary care providers and feel that massage is the key to their healing process.

Over 2 years ago I opened and completely remodeled a building in an a great location with an acupuncturist that I have worked closely with at another local Portland center, which I co-owned for 13 years.
It's been an honor to have a successful therapeutic massage practice for so many years. I have been fortunate to work with some of the most skilled and caring health care providers imaginable. Our clientele consists of a wide variety of people from lower and upper income levels as well as many nurses and doctors who come to us for care and refer to us. I came to this place in my career with hard work and commitment to my clients/patients and other providers through follow up and being present with their care.

We only have room for one more LMT and then we are at full capacity. We turn away 2-5 clients every day and it is time to bring in the right person for our small group practice.
I am looking for a very special LMT with lots of heart and skills. You will be working with myself and 3 other very talented and experienced LMT's who are also my employees and simply amazing people to be around! Two LMT's have been doing massage for 16 plus years each and one for 9 years. We work closely and respect each others different skills. We care about each other. So be prepared to work in a place with a lot of respect and gratitude for what you do and who you are.

This is a LONG TERM POSITION for a person matching the following criteria:
* Would you rather have someone else paying for all overhead costs, without all the stress of paying and doing taxes, book keeping, marketing/websites, supplies, being responsible for rent and building maintenance, laundry and all that comes with owning your own business? Yet, be able to have your own freedom of style and expression as a therapist?
Do you have the desire and talent to do transformative bodywork in a clinical setting? That means there is paperwork and SOAP notes and entering some client info for booking and easy communication.
Do you have an outgoing personality and are you a great communicator who collaborates well with others?
* Are you are the type of person that is hard working, honest, loyal, and can handle the physical demands of deep tissue and DEEP PRESSURE work?
Are you able and willing to write soap notes (there will be on the job training) .Do you have a smart phone and able to text and get back to us and clients if needed in a reasonable amount of time? You will need to get a smart phone if not. If you don't have a smart phone and you are 'the one" we will wait for you to upgrade.
This is only for people who really love being an LMT and are kind of a geek about what they do.
You must feel comfortable in a group practice sharing some clients/patients with other providers. We have plenty of clients.
* Are you open and receptive to learning new techniques in bodywork and client care? Can you check your ego at the door?
* Do you have the personality and energy to inspire clients to continue their care?
* I must also mention that it would be an obvious conflict of interests for you to have your own massage space. If you are renting a massage space and want to let go of the responsibility then we can help you make the transfer,

SCHEDULE:
Shifts would be on an on call basis. We are looking for a minimum of 4 full days or some other combo like 3 full days and two - half days to start with and then after the trial period move to at least 4 full days a week or 5 if you like. This includes evenings except on weekends. We are specific in that we need. The days are Monday, Wednesday, Saturday THESE ARE THE KEY DAYS! Sunday, twice a month and alternate the Sundays you don't work with another day. The on call shifts for weekdays are 10-7:30pm (or some variety of that) We can work that out. We have lots of breaks for eating and resting when you need it. You don't have to work later evenings on the weekends and for now we have found that day time is better on weekends such as 9am-5pm or 10am-6pm ish. If you only had 4 massages your day would be quite short. There is a lot of going with the flow of the requests that come in. The LMT's often book their own massages even though we have front desk support.
You must be able to do 5 total contact hours of massages on a full day with typically 30 min between clients if you would like! So that could be two 90 minute massages with two one hour massages as an example. If you want to do more in a day thats great as long as you are taking care of yourself and the client/patient gets a good massage. We are into high quality care. I am into quality of life and having truly healthy therapists. We are an innovative group and were doing something different here in PDX. This is nothing like a spa or typical dr's office setting. You get to be you by facilitating people with your flair and intention.

PAY
You will be paid well just show us what you can do by your actions.
You must be a DEEP tissue/DEEP PRESSURE therapist by nature that can also adapt to people who cannot receive this kind of work. Also, the ability to do occasional outcalls would be helpful but not a must. We are looking for someone who needs and likes to work and is inspired to build our clientele. It would be great if you have already trained in Ashiatsu (barefoot bar massage). We all have a lot of training in different areas so pull out your tool box by all means!

The pay starts off at a rate of $30 plus tips and bonus. We are very big on bonus pay here! You can also make money on supplements you believe in, with 50% going to your income. No spa or dr.'s office would give you 50%, that I can assure you.

One of our LMT's started at this rate 2 years ago and now averages
$60/hour with tips and bonus. For some auto cases she get a bonus pay of $70/hour. Now with no overhead, she makes more than she did when she worked for herself and is booked every week and has never folded one piece of laundry. Her old business (that she transferred over to our center) was slower because she did not have time to handle the endless tasks of self employment with no front desk support. It all depends on you and your skills and work ethic that you bring to the table.
Lets break it down: In a busy practice (and many clinics are not) If you put your heart into it, in one year you could average $50/hour (with tips and some bonus pay) x 18 massages/per week (5/day)=$900/week thats $3,600/month x 12 m with zero overhead and no insurance billing at all. This is you just focusing on massage. You get to keep it all minus your taxes. We all pay taxes:) When you work for yourself you have all the liability and all of overhead costs and marketing etc. Bottom line, you can make more here than the typical LMT working for themselves in PDX. This is just the projection for the end of the first year. When you apply yourself you certainly can make more in the future. Show us by doing and there is no limit to what is possible for you here.

Vacation:We also cover for each other when we go away on vacations (including you) and we do go on vacation!

FAMILY:
The other three main therapists have already become successful and busy so we are ready to bring in someone in that wants to be with us full time and long term.
This will be your time to show us how fantastic you truly are. We are like a family that relies heavily on clear communication and trust with each others clientele/patients.
If you are the right person I can work out a schedule that fits both of our needs. Once you're an established therapist at our center you will be honored and paid well based on performance, commitment and ability to work full time shifts etc. Because I am a massage therapist I will treat you as I would want to be treated.

PERKS: Discounted massage treatments for you. Free education from myself and staff in some of the most advanced massage techniques. Half off Acupuncture treatments. Wholesale supplements and food (like many items at new seasons and your ND office), free hypnosis cds/downloads and other advanced educational DVD's. Discounts at local businesses. Free use of rooms for trade to better your quality of life or to promote yourself. I pay for an herbal consult with one of the best herbalists in Portland (outside of our office). Our main LAC is one of the best supplement advisors there is and she can help advise you on other needs to improve your health. Bonus/Vacation pay for each year
(and it goes up for years) you are with us. Lots of love and respect. Everyone that works at our center is incredibly kind and thoughtful. We are always working on creating more benefits to make for a great working culture at the center. I am into everyone being balanced and happy!

I BELIEVE IN: Laughter, relaxed professionalism, being who you are, not selling product for money but only if they really need it, loving your clients, being dynamic and interesting, offering something different, taking time for people, working hard and enjoying your time off thoroughly, being healthy physically and emotionally. You can relax at our center and really be who you are!

SO PAUSE FOR A MOMENT and take a DEEP breath and think about if this really sounds like a fit for you at this time in your life. You and I will be investing a lot of time and effort when you come into our practice.
I am so excited to meet the person I plan on spending many rewarding years with!

*Please send a resume. If you are resume phobic, please simply put together a work history with references. Explain why you are "THE ONE" for us!
