Job Description:

Setting up projects and managing them to completion. Working with and coordinating vendors/subs. Will be working on an array of projects (many will be in the $200/250k - $600k range) and working on 2-3 at the same time. There will be an overlap and the candidate needs to have demonstrated this in the past. Facilitates and conducts engineering assignments of major significance involving projects of large magnitude and scope. Performs a variety of facilities engineering assignments utilizing a wide range of engineering principles relating to the planning, design, construction and start up of new or expanded facilities. Works at an advanced technical level involving planning development and design of equipment, processes, and facilities. Reviews progress and evaluates results of multiple projects across various disciplines. Takes a lead role in major facilities projects and coordinates team efforts ensuring the completed facilities meet company specifications, schedules and budgets. Leads and coordinates teams of engineers and/or technicians as necessary to achieve project completion. Coordinates the work of outside design engineers and construction contractors. Takes a leading position in communicating objectives and requirements involved with sub-contractors from beginning of design process through construction, installation, and start-up.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree - Engineering or related discipline
    • Minimum experience (number of month/years and type of work experience beyond formal education) required for competent performance: 5-10 years (10 years ideal) engineering experience in planning, design, construction and start-up of manufacturing or related facilities
  • 3+ years experience as project manager on new or expanded facilities projects.
  • Thorough knowledge and complete understanding and application of principles, concepts and practices of facilities engineering.
  • STRONG ability to work with others and get work done through others
  • STRONG abilities to get projects and items competed in a timely fashion.
  • Thorough knowledge of local, state and federal government regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills required.
  • Excellent organizational skills required.
  • Have lead responsibilities for one or more employees.
  • Been responsible for work-flow production, training of new employees on covered jobs, and answering job-related questions in one or more areas.
  • Good computer skills - MS office Suite, Planning software, and good Presentation skills.

Performance Expectations:

Daily Basis:

1. Coordinates planning and design of new or expanded facilities 15%

2. Supervises site, design and construction team work efforts 25%

3. Selects and coordinates construction contractors 5%

4. Prepares engineering and construction estimates and schedules 5%

5. Reviews drawings, specifications, studies and vendor proposals 15%

6. Interfaces with city and state planning authorities and J&J corporate Engineering and Legal departments 5%

7. Coordinates start-up of facilities including training and validation 10%

8. Supports manufacturing equipment installation/startup 5%

9. Prepares and administers engineering and construction contracts 5%

10. Performs other related duties as assigned by management 10%
