A successful UNIX Architect will have the following:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from four-year college or university (preferably in Computer Science or MIS/CIS); or two years related experience and/or training; and one plus years of experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3+ years of recent UNIX Admin experience.
  • Experience and expertise with a wide range of Unix, Solaris and Linux (OS) supported hardware and software, including but not limited to hardware types and configurations, OS configurations and installation, troubleshooting OS client and server platforms, network connectivity, disk storage systems and logical systems design.
  • Extensive background with RAID systems, Unix, Solaris and Linux systems and service configurations including cron, file systems, kernel parameters, networking interfaces, LDAP, E-mail systems, transports and transport protocols including TCP/IP, Ethernet, MPLS, WAN dedicated circuits, SMTP, HTTP and HTTPS, and Backup software/hardware.
  • Must be able to demonstrate advanced application in the areas of hardware devices, operating systems, databases and how they interrelate.
  • Should be able to demonstrated application of UNIX/NT and Shell scripting and/or other Languages (Perl, C, C++ and Java).

 

DISH’s UNIX Admin team is at the forefront of technology. We are an enterprise environment where you can expect to work on both projects and hardware. In the past two years the team has succeeded in completing an entire network upgrade and in moving 15 millions subs in one night. 

 

Primary responsibilities fall into the following categories:

  • Applicant should have expertise in Linux, HPUX and/or Solaris operating systems and have material operational knowledge.
  • Applicant will be responsible for Open Systems operational environment management, build out,  integration, systems documentation, maintaining vendor support and technical interaction, technology implementation with and identifying sound technical solutions to execute the requirements of the business. 
  • Applicant must work effectively with Systems Architects, System Administrators, Project Managers, DBAs, Developers and management to provide timely execution and support for business systems, planning, implementation and increased system uptimes. 
  • Applicant must know or quickly learn the working environment – technical and business, through self initiative and direction from senior staff and/or piers.  
  • The applicant must assist in mentoring of team members and other workers relating to your job function and demonstrate leadership through technical knowledge, interpersonal skills, business knowledge, organizational skills and professionalism.
  • Applicant must be able to participate effectively on team and enterprise projects.
