DESCRIPTION:

This position is in a large multi service health unit as Laboratory Technician to provide clinical laboratory testing, maintain Quality Control and Quality Assurance, ensuring that CLIA and State laboratory standards, rules, regulations and laboratory policies are followed, and using independent judgment in a variety of complex laboratory related activities. The responsibilities encompass performing daily clinical lab duties pertaining to Sexually Transmitted Diseases, Tuberculosis, HIV, Family Planning and other programs. This includes drawing blood by venipuncture and fingerstick, performing moderate complexity and CLIA-waived tests such as RPR for syphilis, microscopic examination for Wet Mount test for Trichomonas, Clue cells and fungi; KOH for fungi; Gram Stain and dark field examination; pregnancy test, urine dipstick, Hemoglobin, Glucose, as well as any other test requested by the doctor and as qualifications for medical laboratory technician specify. Prepare specimens for send-out, do electronic lab ordering and results reporting. Responsible for HIV results documentation and confidentiality issues. Run daily quality controls and maintains QC logs. Participate in proficiency testing program requested by CLIA. Incumbent may be required to work on weekends, evenings and at other site clinics as required by the program activities. Florida Clinical Laboratory license at technician/technologist level is required in accordance with Florida Clinical Laboratory Licensure laws and regulations; Chapter 483 F.S. and Chapter 64B3 F.A.C.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:

Collects and analyzes clinical specimens and data.

Conducts chemical, serological or microbiological analyses and tests.

Draws blood by venipuncture and finger puncture,

Collects body fluids for laboratory tests.

Maintains inventory of laboratory supplies and reagents, places orders and processes receipt of items

Develops methods, prepares equipment and conducts laboratory procedures.

Evaluates and reports test results.

Receives, records, prepares and/or preserves specimens or samples for testing or evaluation.

Assures compliance with chain of custody requirements.

Assures compliance with CLIA and Florida State rules and regulations related to clinical laboratory.

Calibrates and maintains equipment as directed

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS:

Florida Clinical Laboratory license at technician/technologist level is required in accordance with Florida Clinical Laboratory Licensure laws and regulations; Chapter 483 F.S. and Chapter 64B3 F.A.C.
