Position Summary

The Unemployment Specialist is the focal point role for the Unemployment Insurance program. Provide coordination of services to ensure compliance with company, state, and federal laws.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

Unemployment Administration
  • Ensure that the required supporting documentation is provided to vendor for both claims and hearings, and conduct follow-up activity with the HR field staff to secure additional information required by the state agencies to effect successful claims management and maximum cost control; schedule, coach, and prepare witness in the UI hearing process; assess liability of UI claims and review with management for determination to pursue UI claim.
  • Create and maintain confidential UI records and tracking information using Microsoft Office applications, HRIS applications, and other vendor systems ensuring accuracy and completeness of all records. Ensure that all UI standards and protocols are followed under legal, regulatory, and company policy. Provide statistical reporting of UI claims.
  • Primary liaison for the Unemployment program, providing timely responses to vendor on all unemployment claim and hearing related requests; respond to all management, associate, state and vendor inquiries; perform wage investigations for chargeable UI claims and provide information to the state.

Minimum Qualifications

Education Level: (Required) Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience



2 or more years of experience in unemployment insurance claims

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
  • Strong time management skills, ability to manage multiple tasks, and superior organizational skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills with the ability to handle sensitive employee issues in a highly confidential manner.
  • Demonstrated time management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Ability to work independently, but also successful team building skills Demonstrates commitment to meeting or exceeding customer expectations, effectively solicits and responds to the needs of the customer both external and internal
  • Works cooperatively with others toward common group objectives, demonstrates respect for the ideas and contributions of other team members, cultivates positive relationships with other associates, and provides assistance and support to others
  • Computer skills with a range of desktop applications
  • Adaptability to changing demands, priorities, circumstances and directions
  • Report writing systems knowledge and skills (i.e. Oracle or related software)
  • Intermediate Level Microsoft Office Applications with Word/Excel


Environmental & Physical Requirements

Office / Sedentary Requirements

Incumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of the job. Work is performed primarily in an office environment. Typically requires the ability to sit for extended periods of time (66%+ each day), ability to hear the telephone, ability to enter data on a computer and may also require the ability to lift up to 10 pounds.
