Job Description
As part of PPG’s Corporate Environmental Affairs organization The Remediation Project Manager will report directly to the Corporate Director, Environmental Affairs. Our preference is this person work from our Monroeville, Pennsylvania (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) or another PPG facility in the United States. There will be domestic and international travel of approximately 25%.

The Remediation Project Manager is responsible to minimize environmental liabilities and protect the asset value of land for PPG Strategic Business Units through overall management of existing onsite and offsite remediation projects (i.e. the Land Management Program) and performance of site assessments (i.e. the Site Assessment Program) for acquisitions or divestitures of businesses or properties.

Additional Responsibilities:
  • Periodic assessment of owned and operated properties and assessments in response to episodic events (i.e. spills or releases) on a global basis.
  • Procurement and management of consultants and contractors to cost effectively complete projects
  • Provide recommendations to PPG Management regarding remedial strategy and decisions
  • Support of litigation involving environmental contamination
  • Provide recommendations for provision of appropriate financial reserves to cover anticipated costs of future remediation
  • Responsible for mitigating of the impact of remediation costs on business performance
  • Negotiation with governmental agencies to determine requirements for remediation project
  • Negotiation with other companies to determine the fair share of costs to be attributed to PPG at multi-party Superfund sites
  • Communication with the public as necessary regarding PPG’s involvement at waste sites, and management to ensure that all work is performed in accordance with appropriate laws and regulations.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, chemistry, environmental science or related engineering/science degree
  • At least 10 years environmental engineering / science experience with at least 5 years exclusively in environmental remediation project management

Preferred Qualifications (in addition to Required Qualifications)
  • At least 10 years environmental remediation and project management experience

Skills
  • Strong in-depth knowledge of environmental control principles and regulatory environmental requirements.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams internal and with consultants/ contractors, the community and with regulatory agencies.
