The principal responsibilities of the Special Police Officer are:

To provide safety and security services, protecting customers, personnel and property by enforcing the laws and policies of the District of Columbia and the George Washington University Hospital.

Monitors hospital CCTV system, alarm systems, and communication equipment, dispatching staff as needed. Implements hospital access control procedures at hospital entrances.

Responds to emergency calls, making initial assessments of situations using tact, diplomacy and judgment.

Resolves violent and potentially violent situations.

Provides security and protection to hospital patients, visitors, staff and customers by patrolling areas.

Current Special Police Officer Commission by District of Columbia High School diploma or equivalent Prior security and/or supervisory experience preferred U.S. Citizenship is required Must be able to speak and communicate effectively and in a professional manner Able to work flexible hours Must be at least 21 years of age Must receiving a passing score on the Customer Centered Care (CCC) test
