Copper Hills Youth Center is a 197-bed private residential treatment center for adolescents 12-17 years of age. We counsel, teach and mentor children placed in our care and give each child a chance to make successful changes. We strive to improve lives and help children help themselves. At Copper Hills, we treat boys and girls who have emotional, behavioral and psychiatric disorders, including anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder and depression. We also specialize in caring for patients with Asperger's syndrome. For youth with co-existing substance abuse problems, we offer weekly individualized therapy that focuses on education, recovery and abstinence. Our accredited private school allows students to continue their education while receiving treatment.

GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB

The Director of Nursing is responsible for the quality of Nursing Services, Infection Control, sterile and non-sterile physical care equipment, patient and employee health care education and prevention, Medical Records and Quality Assurance provided at each CCS facility. In this capacity, he/she also monitors and evaluates the Patient Services of Dietetics, Pharmacy, Dental, Emergency, Laboratory, Pathology, and Radiology.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

1. Exhibit professionalism in dress, demeanor and behavior at all times

2. Improve skills and knowledge by meeting or exceeding self-set professional goals.

3. Establishes an organizational framework and promotes an attitudinal climate through which quality patient care services can be provided.

4. Develops, implements and evaluates the philosophy, objectives, policies, procedures, standards, staffing and budgetary needs for Nursing Services, the Infection Control program, sterile and non-sterile physical care equipment and supplies, the patient and employee health care education and prevention program, Medical records, the Quality Assurance program.

5. Collaborates with other administrative and clinical staff as needed and requested in planning services, investigating complaints, establishing standards and implementing new and revised policies and procedures to promote quality paitent care.

6. Directly supervises the Head/Charge Nurse in all managerial duties and provides clinical consultation as indicated or requested.

7. Monitors, evaluates, and provides consultation for Dietetic Services, Pharmacy Services, Dental Services, Emergency Services, Laboratory Services, Pathology Services, Radiology Services, and all other support services utilized to provide comprehensive patient care services.

8. Chair the Quality Assurance committee, serves on Governing Board, Executive Committee, Safety Committee, Pharmacy and Therapeutic Committee, Program Evaluation Committee, Staff Growth and Development and attends other meetings of committees as requested in order to formulate programs for improvement, identify problems, assist in finding solutions and monitor and/or implement plan of action and/or correction.

9. Regularly conducts meetings with Nursing and Floor Staff personnel to discuss new and/or revised policies, procedures, guidelines or information.

10. Assure safety and humanity in supervision of seclusion and restraint procedures and assures documentation of adequate supervision and observation.

11. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisory or administrative personnel.

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. 1. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

A Bachelors degree in nursing from an accredited educational institution. (MSN preferred.) Experience should include eight (8) years of employment as an RN in a psychiatric setting in position of progressive responsibility and leadership. This should include at least three (3) years in a supervisory and/or administrative role. A Master's level consultant available.

2. LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and policy/procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports, correspondence, technical and medical terminology and assist in proposals. Ability to speak effectively before groups of patients or employees of organization. Ability to review and correct written work of others.

3. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret graphs.

4. REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to manage staff performing a variety of tasks.

5. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

State license to practice nursing. CPR certification. Valid state driver's license.

6. PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, walk, talk, and hear use hands to finger, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly life and/or move up to 10 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distant, and peripheral vision, color and depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The employee may occasionally be required to physically restrain clients, using authorized restraint procedures as a last resort for protection of client and staff.

7. WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment for this position is a residential facility or day treatment school setting. While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee will be exposed to clients who may ask inappropriate personal questions, display socially unacceptable personal behaviors, use profanity and sexually explicit phrases, make insulting remarks or threats regarding appearance, age sex, or race, and exhibit defiance, dishonesty, and assaultive or self-destructive behaviors. The employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions, and may be subject to occasional local travel as required by facility needs. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
