Copper Hills Youth Center is a 197-bed private residential treatment center for adolescents 12-17 years of age. We counsel, teach and mentor children placed in our care and give each child a chance to make successful changes. We strive to improve lives and help children help themselves. At Copper Hills, we treat boys and girls who have emotional, behavioral and psychiatric disorders, including anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder and depression. We also specialize in caring for patients with Asperger's syndrome. For youth with co-existing substance abuse problems, we offer weekly individualized therapy that focuses on education, recovery and abstinence. Our accredited private school allows students to continue their education while receiving treatment.

JOB SUMMARY

Performs a broad variety of work in the maintenance and repair of buildings and grounds at the facility including carpentry, electrical, plumbing, glazier, masonry, and painting tasks.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

1. Must be able to fully install, maintain, and repair physical plant structures.

1.1 Performs basic rough and finish carpentry work in construction and repair of structures such as partitions, walls, doors, fences, window frames, office furniture, roofs, and shelves. Adjusts hinges and doors on cabinets, desks, closets, etc. Sets up and breaks down office spaces/cubicle partitions. Moves and assists in moving furniture and equipment at various facilities/sites. Repairs and treats structures such as floors, showers, sinks, walls, roofs, and carpets. Prepares surfaces and applies paint, enamel, lacquer, varnish, or stain drywall and mudding, repairs wall coverings.

1.2 Maintains and repairs windows and doors including the removal of broken glass, putty or plastic replacing or servicing hardware adjusting locks on doors and cleaning plugged key slots, replacing or arranging for replacement of glass.

1.3 Performs basic electrical installation and repair work to wiring for switches, outlets, plugs, cables, power circuits and appliances repairs and replaces lighting systems and fixtures inspects electrical systems for unsafe conditions. Hooks up and services appliances, kitchen and emergency equipment and reports mechanical malfunctions to appropriate party for action.

1.4 Identifies and performs basic repair of plumbing leaks or breaks opens clogged lines and drains replaces washers and other minor parts maintains and monitors septic system. Installs and maintains drinking fountains repairs/replaces hot water heaters.

1.5 Performs some minor troubleshooting/repair of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning units including the regularly scheduled replacement of filters.

1.6 Maintains grounds in clean and orderly manner including mowing, trimming, weeding, aerating and fertilizing lawns replaces plants as needed sets sprinklers replaces broken sprinkler heads adjusts automatic time clocks and system pressure if necessary maintains grounds maintenance equipment trims tree branches that create hazardous situations.

1.7 Annotates and updates work logs and maintenance records for specific site and regulatory requirements.

1.8 Activates/deactivates building alarms and responds to alarm calls during and after regular work hours.

1.9 Maintains a clean, safe, and orderly physical plant.

2. Communicates with all departments for feedback on the functionality of physical plant,

machinery, and equipment. Able to assist others within the department in completing work orders in a timely and effective manner.

3. Assists Maintenance Technicians in completing needed tasks.

3.1 Completes all tasks as delegated by the Plant Operations Director and CEO or other

appropriately designated and authorized persons.

3.2 Supervises service contractors on premises (when instructed).

4. Complies with regulatory, industry and facility standards of safe work practices

QUALIFICATIONS :

1. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and 2 years general maintenance work experience.

Valid State Drivers License

3. LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and policy/procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports, correspondence, technical terminologies. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

4. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions,

percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and

geometry. Elementary use of computer spreadsheet programs.

5. REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to

interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal

with several abstract and concrete variables.

6. PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand walk sit use

hands to finger, handle, or feel reach with hands and arms climb or balance stoop, kneel, crouch,

or crawl see, talk, and hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and

occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job

include close, distant, and peripheral vision, color and depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

This position could require use of "Handle With Care" restraint procedures as a last resort for

protection of student and staff.

8. WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid

conditions moving mechanical parts high, precarious places fumes or airborne particles toxic or

caustic chemicals outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the

work environment is usually very loud.
