Mayhill Hospital is a private psychiatric hospital specializing in mental health and chemical dependency care for adults and seniors. We provide a wide range of services and programs that offer evidence-based treatment proven to have positive outcomes for our patients. Our inpatient and outpatient services offer supportive and compassionate care through specialty programs that are tailored to meet the needs of our patients. We provide mental health and chemical dependency care for adults and seniors. Our Inpatient Services consist of Mental Health Program to help those who need acute psychiatric care and stabilization in a safe and supportive atmosphere. Patients follow a structured schedule of therapeutic groups, activities and educational sessions. We have a Crisis Stabilization Program to care for individuals in serious mental health crisis that provides intensive supervision and support to patients in a safe and secure environment. Mayhill also offers a Chemical Dependency Program that provides care that safely manages the physical symptoms of withdrawal from prescription drugs, alcohol and/or other substances. Our Day Hospital (Outpatient) Services for Adults and Seniors is a continuum of care is offered for patients with mental health and chemical dependency problems through intensive outpatient services.
This is an unpaid student internship, suitable only for bachelor's- or master's-level students concurrently enrolled in a practicum, internship, or field placement course, as specified below.
The Social Service Student Intern will work in conjunction with a Mayhill program therapist and with their professor to assist Mayhill program therapists in performing various social services functions, including but not limited to 1) making family contact, 2) performing psychosocial assessments, 3) observing psychoeducational and process-oriented therapy groups, and 4) documenting patient's responses to the above therapeutic activities. Depending upon the student's level of training and experience, some interns may be allowed to co-lead and/or lead these therapy groups, and may also be allowed to conduct individual counseling sessions with patients.
Education: For the duration of the internship, the eligible student must be enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program at an accredited college or university, majoring either in social work, counseling, psychology, rehabilitation therapy, music therapy, art therapy, or some other related helping field. This is an unpaid student internship therefore, qualified candidates must receive credit toward the completion of their degree plan through their participation. Verification of the intern's student status must be provided by the college or university.
Additional Requirements: Must be available to attend Hospital Orientation, CPR and Handle with Care/Verbal De-Escalation Training upon beginning of Internship.
