The Coding Quality Analyst (Quality Management Specialist) is responsible performing coder audits and education. The QM Specialist will work closely with Quality Management upper management and the QM Coordinator to prioritize tasks, follow up with coders, and ensure quality goals are met.  The QM Specialist may also complete contracted audits, assist as necessary with client education, provide coder feedback and ongoing coder education, man the QM coding help desk and other QM projects as assigned.

Primary Responsibilities:



  • Coordinates with the QM manager and QM Coordinator and performs audits on coders or other designated entity, including but not limited to inpatient coding, Outpatient coding - professional, facility, and ICD-9 charging/coding

  • Provides analysis, feedback, and education for physician and facility documentation quality audits

  • Provides support to coding specialists and coding clients by fielding Coding Help Desk calls and performing claims reviews for assigned coders and facilities

  • Assists Coding Manager when implementing new coding clients by providing input on client coding guidelines, charge master questions, and educating coders on same

  • Assists with auditing coders when coding rules change that result from new regulations or revisions to existing policies

  • Recognizes patterns of coding and/or documentation deficiencies, educational deficits, and errors and notifies coding manager to institute immediate corrective action with coders or clients as required

  • Serves as preceptor for new coders and monitors progress and provides additional training as needed by utilizing WebEx to host training calls, etc

  • Manages flow of assigned work and effectively utilizes resources to facilitate timely completion of tasks and acquisition of knowledge

  • Maintains and applies coding and compliance skills and knowledge

  • Completes thorough review of monthly coder education packets, provides FAQ's for adding to the education packet and assists as needed in writing articles for the education packet on industry issues

  • Addresses issues and questions from coders while auditing them

  • Maintains knowledge and understanding of all Optum360 coding policies

  • Maintains access to coding references and client systems and reviews the coding guidelines and processes for all assigned audits, prior to beginning audits

  • Attends monthly Coding Meetings

  • Attends bi monthly QM meetings and is prepared to discuss issues, ask ad answer questions, in order to ensure consistent coding direction across multiple coding teams and locations

  • Maintains strict confidentiality with patient, client, company and employee data

Requirements

Qualifications:



  • 3-5 years previous Inpatient and or Outpatient coding and/or auditing experience

  • Industry specific current coding credential required i.e.: CCS, RHIT,  etc

  • Intermediate Electronic Medical Records experience

  • Interpersonal skills, good communication

  • Ability to work, communication and educate in a variously in both written and verbal
