The position of senior counsel, office of the general counsel, will report to the EVP and general counsel of PepsiCo and play a critical role in supporting the GC and the members of his leadership team, including sector GCs and functional SVPs, as well as senior leaders on the PPGA, compliance & ethics, and global citizenship and sustainability teams. The need for this role comes as the legal, compliance and PPGA landscapes grow increasingly more complex, with additional challenges and headwinds impacting PepsiCo on a constant basis.

The position will work with the GC and his team to manage the priorities of the function, based on internal/external trends and challenges, as well as from the standpoint of talent, special projects, and follow-up/action plans coming out of meetings and visits made by the GC around the world with internal and external stakeholders. The role will also provide support as directed by the GC to other senior leaders within the global law team and will be responsible for keeping the communication and flow of work throughout the legal function moving in the right direction, while ensuring critical matters are prioritized accordingly. The position will represent and interface on behalf of the PepsiCo GC, providing his point of view, regarding internal matters and has the latitude to make decisions based on the needs of the business and function. This will be accomplished through demonstrating a strong ability to understand the various legal complexities associated with operating in a global market, the ability to influence and provide direction to individuals several levels above this role, and the ability to connect with other functions regularly. Additional responsibilities will include managing the GC's briefing papers and working with corporate communications to develop talk-points for engagements in which the GC might participate (i.e. external meetings, BoD meetings, town halls, etc.). Additionally, this individual must ensure information is provided to members of the GCs team, as well as other senior executives accordingly, while making certain that the GC himself is briefed regularly on critical matters involving the legal function and any internal or external risks to PepsiCo.

This role is a developmental role for a mid-level attorney and is designed to provide the above support, while simultaneously receiving a unique critical experience in which the individual will garner a global perspective on both the legal function and the broader PepsiCo business. The role will serve as a 2-year (approximate) rotational assignment.

This individual will also be responsible for the following:

Provide support to the EVP and GC of PepsiCo

Ensure flow of information between GC and various leaders of the legal function and PepsiCo executive committee is kept constant

Develop action plans and follow-up where necessary as a result of meetings and engagements GC will have with internal and external stakeholders around the world

In coordination with the sector GCs and functional SVPs, track and manage overall legal deliverables with quarterly status update reviews at GC meetings

Under guidance of the GC, plan, track and manage special initiatives (external speaking engagements, Band 1+ leadership meetings, workshops/expert panels discussions, etc)

Manage GC's daily briefing papers and keep him informed/apprised of critical information pertaining to the legal function

Work with corporate communications to prepare talking points for speeches and serve as point-person for any remarks the GC might make to internal associates or external stakeholders

Engage external influencers and arrange meetings accordingly between GC and senators, governors, and other government officials

Qualifications:

Juris Doctorate required

7 - 10 years of firm and/or corporate legal experience

Strong communication skills, both written and verbal

Must have ability to think and take action independently, using sound judgment, in an environment that is often ambiguous and dynamic; Ability to make the right tradeoffs is critical for this role

Ability to "manage up" and influence leaders several levels above this role

Culturally and politically astute

A strong interest in developmental opportunities, and openness to feedback and coaching

Must be willing to work in a complex and matrixed environment

Experience in dealing with highly confidential and sensitive information is explicitly required
