The California Exposition & State Fair Competitive Programs Unit has multiple openings for State Fair Workers to work as Lead Livestock Clerks. 81# 15-081

Essential Functions:

Assist in the organization, development and functioning of the California Livestock Competition and exhibit which can include the: filing, lifting file boxes up to 30 pounds, using a computer and printer, using Microsoft Word, Powerpoint and Excel, Showorks, Access, working with various office tools such as staplers and scissors, receiving artwork, unpacking artwork from boxes and crates, re-packing shipped artworks with bubble wrap, foam peanuts, tape, and/or other common packing materials, lifting objects, may drive a vehicle, proof reports, answering phones, mailing correspondences. Assist in the purchase and delivery of services, information and materials, assist in receptions including meet and greet the public and setting up tables, chairs and food, working with volunteers, art docents, and the interfacing with the general public during the fair.

General Livestock Clerking duties including but not limited to assisting with opening mail, data entry and recording checks. Clerk Livestock shows and assist with clerking for the Sale of Champions. Assist with Breed Association Result Catalogs, Champion Summaries, Media Reports, Premium Proofs, and Checks. Assist with proofing, corrections and results of entries. Follow up with ring activities, schedules and equipment needs. Organize and print species catalogs, distribute to necessary department and achieve needed materials for future reference. Contact Associations for up to date information on registration procedures. Answer exhibitor's questions and requests in person, via email, phone calls, or mail. Email or mail competition handbooks, necessary forms and applications as requested.

Desirable Qualifications:

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

* The ability to work in a fast paced environment with changing priorities and be able to multi-task.

* Ability to research and apply applicable laws, rules, and policies.

* Exceptional attendance, punctuality, and dependability.

* Outstanding customer service skills, consultative abilities, exhibit tact and diplomacy in verbal and written communications, and possess a strong work ethic.

* Ability to work independently or cooperatively in a group setting.

* Ability to maintain confidentiality.

* Ability to handle and evaluate livestock.

* Experience showing livestock.

* Experience in proper movement of livestock and animal welfare practices.

* Experience in the clerking or coordination of livestock show.

* Currently enrolled in College/University or a College graduate

* Proficient in Access/Database management

* Maintain valid driver's license

Work Environment Requirements:

This position requires a background check / fingerprint clearance and a valid Driver's License.

You may also be exposed to extreme temperatures, airborne dust, fumes, vapors, chemicals, medical waste and blood borne pathogens, prolonged periods of standing, sitting, and physical activity.
