Summary
The Classroom Instructor provides exceptional instruction through direct interaction with classroom students. Hours are scheduled according to needs of the store and the team member’s availability. Must be able to work a flexible work schedule, including days, evenings, weekends, holidays, longer hours and on short notice. May be asked to transfer to other stores within the district. Relocation may be required for career progression.

Scope
  • Conducts category-specific classes in the designated classroom or merchandise location. Follows established curriculum for all core classes as published in the current class catalog. Creates classroom sample displays to promote the upcoming class. Adheres to appropriate color themes as published by the Education Department. Participates in Open House class promotion events as scheduled. Ensures all class rosters are signed and submitted to Education Coordinator or Manager on Duty (MOD) upon completion of class. If requested, develops trend class curriculum in partnership with Education Coordinator. Communicates all classroom needs to Education Coordinator in a timely manner. Promotes Jo-Ann product in all classes and demonstrations. Prepares samples and necessary supplies before scheduled class and ensures classroom is clean and inviting for the next class.
  • Participates in weekly demo program by conducting in-store demonstrations as scheduled. Promotes Jo-Ann product in all classes and demonstrations.
  • Enlists customers and updates the Company’s mailing list.
  • Accurately completes all forms, logs, reports, and other Company documents.
  • Follows proper policies and procedures to minimize shrink, including, but not limited to, remnants, damages and inventory management.
  • Complies with all audit procedures. Maintains awareness of current promotions and sale items throughout the store.
  • Supports teamwork and collaboration with leaders and team members.
  • Displays friendly approach with customers and co-workers. Performs duties with integrity and professionalism and abides by Code of Business Conduct. Ensures all time worked is recorded and payroll records are accurate. Ensures friendly service is provided to every customer. Responds with a sense of urgency to all customer assistance requests.
Education Requirements
  • Minimum: High School Diploma or equivalent.
Experience
  • Minimum: Previous experience in classroom or hobby instruction environment a plus.
