Wekiva Springs Center is a 68-bed acute behavioral health hospital providing quality care in a gender-specific program for men and women. We provide treatment for mental health, addictions and dual diagnosis concerns in a warm and caring atmosphere near I-95 and J Turner Butler in Southside area. Job Duties for a Mental Health Associate include the following:
Maintains a professional demeanor at all times and responds to patients, families, co-workers, and community partners in a courteous, respectful manner
Works efficiently without direct supervision of each task
Participates in orientation of new employees as assigned
Acts as a positive role model to all staff and patients
Responds to others on unit in a helpful manner, especially in times of increased patient acuity or short staffing situations
Makes time for 1:1 supervision and special assignments
Knows location and condition of patients at all times
Obtains specimens from patients when assigned and prepares them for transport to the lab
Assists patients with personal hygiene as needed
Uses proper body mechanics when moving, transporting and/or lifting patients
Manages group of patients in outside activities, i.e., outings, walks, etc.
Drives patients to outside appointments (if a hospital-approved van driver)
Assists in the management of behavior and control of destructive behavior
Knows and applies procedures related to Seclusion/Restraint of patients
Recognizes signs of impaired social interaction and motivates patients toward desired cooperation
Reports patient education deficits to nurse
Facilitates patient attendance to designated programming
Teaches alternatives to destructive behavior
Instructs patient in the care of his/her physical surroundings, including the upkeep of rooms and common areas
Has basic knowledge of chemical dependency and 12 step program
Reinforces discharge plans
Assists packing and collection of all personal items at discharge
Charts objectively in BIRP format maintaining the integrity and continuity of nursing care and treatment team plans
Facilitates organized activities such as community meeting or wrap-up session
Reports all changes in behavior, mood, affect, and thought content to the nurse and documents in the chart
Assesses patient's sleeping patterns and assists in establishing conditions conducive to restful sleep
Collects physical perimeter information to include vital signs, height and weight
Recognizes alterations in nutritional patterns and reports to RN especially with geriatric and CD patients
Recognizes differences between dementia, psychosis and behavioral disorders
Provides information on patient behavior for daily shift record and level evaluation
Anticipates/interprets patient's aggressive behavior to prevent crisis behavior
Checks patient and belongings for contraband and manages the patient's valuables and belongings according to hospital policy
Conducts quality 15-minute checks and appropriately conduct patient observations
Qualified candidates must have the following:
Must be a Certified Nursing Assistant or has an Associates Degree in Psychology
Must have 2 years working experience working with menal health patients in an inpatient setting
Must be skilled and willing to assist with daily living tasks
Must be able to assist in verbally de-escalating patients and assist in physical holds if needed
Must be able to manuever throughout the facility and grounds in order to ensure that patients are properly monitored at all times
Prefer someone who is proficient in doing vital signs
Must be able to effectively communicate with the patients, family members, fellow staff and physicians
Must have good critical skills in order to report any behavioral or medical issues to the nursing staff
