Parade Float Drivers -Large Vehicles help create an amazing daily parade by operating very large parade floats filled with special effects as well as live performers. A parade float driver for large vehicles must be an experienced driver with a CDL. Attention to detail, precise driving skills, and attentiveness to safety of guest and performers are some of the attributes we are looking for in our Parade Float Drivers - Large Vehicles.



Parade Float Drivers - Large Vehicles at Universal Orlando are responsible for:

  • Safely driving float units weighing up to 40,000lbs. 
  • Safely maneuvering obstacles both backstage and onstage.  Adhering to predetermined driving locations and speeds while maintaining communication and direction.  May include, but not limited to: towing of other float units, driving backstage and onstage, loading and unloading of characters and assisting with props and technical systems readiness. 
  • Operating technical equipment such as on board show control, communications, audio, lighting, video and special effects. 
  • Providing logging of technical performance/show quality, detailed examples for maintenance personnel. 
  • Performing small projects and modifications to systems as directed by Universal Orlando Management.  
  • Understanding and actively participating in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established Universal Orlando policy, procedures, training and Team Member involvement activities.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.



To perform the role of a Parade Float Driver – Large Vehicles successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Consistent attendance is a job requirement.
  • Clear vision at 20 inches or less
  • Clear distance vision at 20 feet or more
  • Accurate color vision (the ability to identify and distinguish colors)
  • Excellent peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point)
  • Accurate depth perception (three-dimensional ability to judge distances and spatial relationships)
  • Ability to adjust one’s focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus)  
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
  • Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables. 
  • High school degree or GED required.
  • Proven ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • Preferred 2-4 Years previous customer/guest interaction experience.
  • Preferred experience driving large vehicles, steering other than a standard circular steering wheel.
  • Required experience using audio, lighting and special Effects equipment preferred. 
  • Valid Florida state driver’s license.
  • CDL License is required or candidate must be able to attain a CDL License within 60 days.
  • Will require the use of a high reach (aerial lift)   


The work demands described below are representative of those that must be met by an individual to successfully perform the essential functions of the Parade Float Drivers - Large Vehicles job.



While performing the duties of this job, the individual is required to:

  • Regularly (2/3 to of the time or more) be exposed to wet, humid conditions (non-weather); work near moving mechanical parts. 
  • Frequently (1/3 to 2/3 of the time) work in high, precarious places; outdoor weather conditions; extreme heat (non-weather).  
  • Work in an environment where the noise level is very loud.
