About this job

Provide safe food by following proper Hazard Analyst and Critical Control Point (HACCP) procedures, Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) I Care Model and as per Idaho Food Code. Provide high quality and accurate food by following department standards for the FNS ICARE Model while meeting designated time frames. Provide early/late meal service (including processing of late tray diet orders) and nourishment service with delivery to patient rooms. Provide floor supplies service. Prepare and delivery doctor trays. Assist with patient meal tray assembly on tray line with appropriate timing for service. Assist with menu collection and menu assistance. Communicate menu and meal service information among team members; handle patient complaints and concerns. Complete cleaning and stocking duties as assigned. This position also performs some shifts as food service associate.

Early shift requires sitting with intermittent standing and walking for about 3-4 hours a day and being on feet up to 4-5 hours per day with frequent standing and walking. Late shift required sitting with intermittent standing and walking for most of the day with except when working on tray line which requires being on feet for the duration of tray line plus set up and clean up and stock up of tray line.

Frequent reaching out/up/down, turning, grasping and finger manipulation. Occasional squatting, kneeling, bending, stair climbing.

Frequently required to lift and carry approximately 25 pounds. Occasionally required to lift, carry or move items up to 40 pounds.

Occasionally push/pull large and small services carts, if fully loaded it has a push/pull weight of 20-30 pounds (initial tractal effort) and 10-15 pounds (continuous effort).

Requires full range of body motion, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Able to see objects up close.

Provide uniform as per hospital policy.

Ability to read, write and speak English and follow written and verbal instructions. Be able to work as part of a team. Spanish helpful.

Able to perform math calculations and use weights and measures.

Must be able to organize and prioritize work.

Must maintain accuracy, quality and speed while working under high demand situations with variations in work volume and stress.

Must be able to maintain a professional and courteous demeanor during higher volume/demand times.

Must be able to maintain good two-way communication during high stress times, during resolution of conflict, first with individual and then up the chain of command.

Previous computer experience and familiarity with keyboard required.

Must be cleared through Department of Health and Welfare.

Must be able to learn and retain information for specialized diets and services. Previous special diets knowledge helpful. Must be able to project good voice tone and voice volume when using the phone. Strong interpersonal skills with sensitivity and maturity required due to extensive interaction with patients, families and other health care professionals. Requires independent decision making (within policies and procedures) regarding requests related to meal/menu service or diet changes and information. Able to judge when to seek the intervention of management or the dietitian for specific situations. Previous, consistent experience in a work setting is preferred; previous food service training and experience (including safe food handling practices) helpful, previous customer service training or experience highly desirable.

On-the-job training will be required. Facility code of conduct orientation and safety review must be completed within 30 days of hire. Department safe food handling basics/FNS ICARE Model Initial competency and Food Workers Safe Food Handling Test must be completed within 30 days of hire.

The expected time frame for host/hostess to have:

Proficiency in job routines is approximately 4-6 weeks

Successful completion of tray line checking initial competency within 4-6 weeks

Handle work volume within 2-3 months

Successful completion of infrequently used diet orders initial competency within 3-4 months

Remaining initial job competencies within 3-4 months.
