POSITION SUMMARY:

The Multimodality Technologist performs a variety of technical procedures that require rational independent judgement, ingenuity, and initiative in performing MRI, CT and Radiographic images with a thorough understanding of RIS and PACS systems.

Duties & Responsibilities

1. Knowledgeable in MRI screening and safety, biomedical implants (e.g. pacemakers, clips, ferrous foreign bodies, prior diagnostic or surgical procedures, placement of conductors, (e.g. ECG leads, coils, cables), cryogen safety, emergency procedures (e.g. quench, fire), climate control (temperature, humidity) gauss lines, magnetic shielding, RF shielding, and biological considerations (RF field, specific absorption rate (SAR), biological effects, FDA guidelines).

2. Demonstrates appropriate equipment disinfection between patients.

3. Demonstrates proper procedure for contrast injection.

4. Demonstrates knowledge of patient assessment, monitoring and management, vital signs, physical signs and symptoms, sedated patients, and claustrophobic patients.

5. Demonstrates knowledge of emergency response, reactions to contrast, and cardiac/respiratory arrest.

6. Demonstrates competency for pulse sequences, spin echo, conventional spin echo, fast spin echo (FSE) STIR, FLAIR, Gradient recall echo (GRE), echo planar imaging (EPI).

7. Demonstrates competency in data manipulation, k-space mapping and filling, fourier transformation 3-D post processing, maximum intensity projection (MIP), cardiac analysis.

8. Demonstrates competency in diffusion, perfusion, spectroscopy, and MRI imaging.

9. Demonstrates use of universal precautions and other precautions as appropriate.

10. Demonstrates competency in radiation exposure and monitoring.

11. Demonstrates competency in ALAR and dose equivalent limits.

12. Demonstrates competency with appropriate method of patient identifiers. Two ID's.

13. Demonstrates knowledge of laboratory values including renal function (e.g. BUN, Creatinine clearance, GFR, PT, PTT, platelet, INR).

14. Demonstrates knowledge of IV procedures, venipuncture, site selection, aseptic and sterile technique.

15. Demonstrates knowledge of contrast agents, ionic, non-ionic, hyper-osmolar, iso-osmolar, barium sulfate, water soluble (iodinated) air and water soluble (iodinated) air and water.

16. Demonstrates knowledge of administration route (IV, oral, rectal, intrathecal, catheters, intra-articular) and calculations.

17. Demonstrates knowledge of technical factors affecting patient does; KVp, MAs, pitch, collimation MA modulation techniques, mutidetector configuration, gataing.

18. Demonstrates knowledge of radiation protection and dose measurement, CT dose index (CTDI), multiple scan average dose (MSAD), and dose length product (DLP)

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

* Must be a graduate of an accredited school of Radiological Technology and/or completed and passed an approved course in MRI or CT.

* ARRT(R)(MRI) CT registry required

* Two years Radiological Technology experience is required in this field. Must be able to perform MRI, CT and X-ray)
