About this job

Under the direct supervision of the Food Manager or Supervisor, prepares and cooks a variety of food items, using appropriate methods, for the consumption of patients, physicians, and cafeteria patrons. Assists in setting up and preparing special functions. As assigned, meets food needs/requests of physicians in the designated lounge area . Prepares food according to established standards, including standardized recipes, and evaluates results. Assists in the development and implementation of recipes, menus, food preparation guidelines, policies/procedures, etc. Handles food appropriately and in accordance with sanitation and safety standards. Applies knowledge and experience in food preparation. Performs other duties as requested.

Assists in other areas of the department as assigned/needed, including Cafeteria, Dishroom, pots, putting away stock, delivering patient trays, etc

Prepares hot cold food items for patients, Cafeteria, special functions, and physician meal service, following established standards, and in a timely manner to meet serving deadlines. Utilizes standardized recipes for uniformity of product; works with other cooks, dietitian, and manager to develop/revise recipes as needed. Garnishes appropriately.

Controls food resources appropriately through planning, preparing, utilizing leftovers, and making the most efficient use of food and supplies. Follows production guidelines and patient counts to minimize waste.

Follows cleaning schedule and maintain work areas in an excellent, sanitary and clean condition. Documents all cleaning done on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis.

Uses effective sanitation and infection control techniques in food production activities per established standards.

Current Salt Lake County Food handlers Permitor ServeSafe certificate.

Three years of hospital or large-scale institutional or commercial experience preferred.

Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English

Ability to work 40 hours per week, weekends, holidays, etc.

Ability to be on feet majority of working time; able to walk up/ down stairs.
