This position is responsible for the delivery of quality patient care to the surgical patient and their designated support system. The quality of care given in the surgical services area will be in keeping with the philosophy, mission, and values of the hospital and the Department of Nursing; and will maintain and support the standards of nursing care and practice in order to meet the health care needs of patients, their families, and the community.

The Registered Nurse prescribes, delegates and coordinates all nursing care and patient teaching provided throughout the hospital. The RN is responsible for meeting all standards associated with performance, nursing practice and nursing care, and should strive to promote harmony in the unit. This is a highly visible role with a large degree of physician as well as patient interaction. Duties include the following:

*Patient Rights - The Surgical Services Nurse will work to support and protect the rights of each patient served, treat each patient with dignity and care, and maintain patient confidentiality/privacy.

*Patient Safety - Demonstrates commitment to patient safety initiatives including patient falls, restraints and National Patient Safety Goals.

EDUCATION REQUIRED AND/OR PREFERRED:

*Associates Degree in Nursing from an accredited school required. Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:

*RN License required.

*BLS Health Care Provider required.

EXPERIENCE:

*Minimum of one year Registered Nurse experience in an acute care environment required.

*Previous OR experience or Surgical Services experience is highly preferred
