SPECIFIC ELEMENTS AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS*

*1. Demonstrates clinical competency to practice within the unit Scope of Care.

*2 Organizes and prioritizes nursing care for a unit specific patient assignment.

*3 Administers all medications utilizing the 5 rights to medication administration.

*4 Demonstrates competency in patient teaching and discharge planning including family and/or significant other in collaboration with multidisciplinary team members.

*5. Communicates effectively with staff, peers, supervisors, ancillary department, internal and external customers.

*6 Utilizes quality improvement as basis to improve unit/departmental process.

*7 Pursues professional growth and development.

*8 Maintains unit readiness for regulatory surveys.

*9 Assumes accountability for decisions and actions.

*10 Contributes to the smooth operation of the unit.

*11 Acquires and maintains current knowledge pertinent to AACN nursing standards of practice.

*12 Ensures Patient/Family Centered Care is provided in the department.

*13 Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required

*14 Provides direct nursing care, in accordance with established policies, procedures and protocols of SRMC.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Will have knowledge of service areas for which accountable.

Must have customer service abilities including effective listening skills.

Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast paced environment.

Ability to perform work that requires frequent standing, bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, moving, lifting of patients and/or equipment up to 50 pounds.

EDUCATION:

Required - Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing.

Preferred - BSN degree or currently enrolled in BSN Program.

LICENSURE:

Required - Current licensure as an RN in the state of Virginia.

Required - Current certification as an AHA BLS Healthcare Provider and ACLS.

Preferred - Current certification in specialty field

EXPERIENCE:

Preferred - Minimum of two years of experience as a RN with demonstrated competency in critical care skills.
