About this job

Comments: Incumbent works at a rainbow trout production and trout broodstock hatchery, feeds and rears fish, and provides care of eggs and fry, operates various pieces of equipment and operates forklift, different sizes of fish planting vehicles, and equipment relative to hatchery operations, performs water quality monitoring and sampling in accordance to NPDES Discharge Permit, ability to sample and monitor for aquatic invasive species. Incumbent must perform equipment, vehicle, grounds, and facility maintenance. The incumbent shall possess a valid California class C driver's license and have ability to obtain a class A driver's license within a year of appointment. The program will provide training, per diem, and time to enable the incumbent to attain the license. Must have the ability to swim 50 yards or stay afloat for 5 minutes. Must be able to lift 40 pounds. Standby duties are required. State housing is available and residency is required on the facility.

Ability to: Communicate and write well, speak, read and write English, ability to work one-on one with other employees and speak in front of large groups. Communicate effectively, follow oral and written instructions, prepare simple reports and maintain simple records, establish and maintain cooperative relations with those contacted in the work, analyze situations and take effective action, perform a variety of skilled/semiskilled mechanical and construction work and direct the work of seasonal staff. Must be willing to live and work in remote areas, work weekends on a rotational basis, work Holidays when required, and work in extreme weather conditions of snow and heat. Willing to work away from hatchery as required for field work, remote spawning and fish habitat improvement projects.
