Network Engineer Terrestrial Job - Full-time / Part-time

Network Engineer (Terrestrial) for a contract hire opportunity with Yoh's client located in Herndon, VA.

The Big Picture - Top Skills Should You Possess:

- Designing, deploying and supporting the Terrestrial Network
- Working on Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3
- Must know Lucent Technology including WaveStar and Ink
- Lucent Equipment 1665 DMX; BTI 7000
- Great knowledge of the Lucent Technology System and able to the be Lead to Mentor others.
- On Call and ability to work all shifts.
- Travel 50% of the time.
- Cisco understanding

What You'll Be Doing:

- The network engineer leads tasks and people effectively.
- Design and document all terrestrial network elements including but not limited to: circuits, paths, sites, and pops.
- Develop and technical documentation and database information for the terrestrial network.
- Develop circuit design as per customer specifications.
- Develop design packages in accordance with instructions and procedures.
- Develop drawings and plans for all elements of physical and logical network elements.
- Provide engineering support during the installation and turn up of network elements and CPE.
- Provide capacity planning and management of available and utilized bandwidth on the networks.
- Provide technical support for the network surveillance, provisioning, installation and repair, outside plant, sales, sales engineering, and marketing departments.
- Provide Tier II and Tier III support for network outages on the Terrestrial network.
- Research and investigation of new DWDM, SONET, and TDM network elements and features.
- Support all Caprock government solutions team members with request for: information, design, and building of all network elements related to the Terrestrial network
- Support the call for metrics
- Support the deployment and turn-up of all Terrestrial network services.

What You Need to Bring to the Table:

- Ten years of experience (minimum) performing as a network engineer, with a minimum of five years of experience in telecommunications with specialty listed below
- Five or more years of hands-on experience with optical link loss budget analysis for DWDM and SONET optical links.
- Five years of hands-on experience with SONET / SDH networks, and carriers and signals including, T-1, E-1, T3, VT1.5, STS-1, STS 3c, STS-12c, STS-48c, OC-3, OC-12, OC 48, and OC-192
- Five or more years of hands-on experience with Lucent, BTI, Ciena, Cisco and Adtran network hardware.
- Five or more hears of experience in solving complex design, network, and circuit problems and issues.
- Five or more years of experience in working with a team or working independently without supervision.
- Five or more years of experience in communicates with customers, vendors, service providers, employees, team members and various business contacts in a professional and courteous manner.
- Associates degree in Engineering or a related field. Bachelor's degree is preferred. Four years of work experience can be substituted for two-year degree.
- The ability to work "on call" and "off shift" hours as reqired to support network and equipment maintenance, upgrades, and service interruptions.

Preferred / Additional Skills:

- General certificates network Network+, MCP or MCDST
- Vendor Certificates: Lucent, BTI, Cisco
- Knowledge and experience with Microsoft software applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Microsoft Project, Visio, and Outlook.
- Knowledge and experience with network synchronization and timing distribution.
- Knowledge and experience with telecommunications standards including Telcordia, ANSI, and ITU.
- Skilled in designing and maintaining: DWDM, SONET, SDH, IP, Ethernet networks, network elements, circuits.
- Skilled in installing and testing AC and DC power systems, fiber optic transmission and transmission systems, and electrical cabling and transmission systems.
