At Wegmans, we strive to meet customer needs for everything from a quick mid-week meal to a special holiday that requires extra planning. Our meat department is there to provide a main course no matter the occasion. In the role of a Customer Service Meat team member, you will work in the department responsible for providing a variety of fresh, unique meat products to our customers. • Providing incredible customer service by proactively approaching customers at the counter and on the sales floor; answering questions about products; helping locate products; cutting, weighing and packaging items as customers request
• Working in the department’s back room; weighing, pricing and wrapping products to be sold on the sales floor
• Seeking to learn about products in the department as well as Wegmans cooking techniques to grow and develop professionally, being certain to share acquired knowledge to better assist customers
• Setting up fresh meat cases, ensuring products have proper signage and are well-merchandised following company standards; showcasing quality and freshness and driving sales in the department
• Assisting in all areas of the department, slicing and cutting a variety of meat products and preparing recipes for Ready-to-Cook items as necessary
• Unloading and breaking down deliveries; stocking freezers with products; refilling products to meet customer needs and rotating for freshness
• Working with team members to maintain the overall appearance of the department, ensuring display cases, scales and counters are cleaned
• Properly handling products, using equipment and keeping accurate logs in accordance with food safety and safety guidelines

Qualifications

Candidates must be available Sunday to Saturday from 8am to 6pm

• Properly handle, prepare, transport and store products; ensuring food and human safety practices are strictly adhered to

• Utilize resources to educate self and others about product uses and characteristics, being sure to share acquired product knowledge
• Learn, use and be able to explain Wegmans sanctioned cooking techniques to assist customers for their success at home
• Has knowledge of products used throughout the store and works across departments to provide knowledge based service to assist customers in finding complete meal solutions

What will set me apart from other candidates:

• Customer service experience, preferably in a food service, grocery or retail setting
• Knowledge of, passion for and experience working with, meat
• Experience working in a butcher shop
• Experience utilizing a variety of cooking techniques

Work environment:

• Work involves continuous interaction with customers and co-workers in a fast-paced environment
• Typical motions include repetitive hand and arm movements, bending and reaching
• Responsible for moving and lifting an average of 5 – 20 pounds with a maximum weight lifted of 50 pounds occasionally
• May be exposed to various allergen and work environments, including wet conditions and cold temperatures
• Work may require the safe and proper handling of knives, meat grinder and meat saw
• Will be required to spend the majority of time on his or her feet and stand or walk without a break for up to 4 hours
