In partnership with the Market Manager, the Market Trainer is responsible for, but not limited to, training, customer service, merchandising, inventory control, profit and loss activity, coaching and mentoring, and risk management for the perishable departments within stores in their Market area.  This position partners with the Market Manager to ensure the stores operate in a manner that maximizes sales, profits, and growth of the company.

Essential Functions

  • Develops relationship with department teams within their Market providing leadership, development, and guidance in an effort to maximize stores performance
  • Oversees Educate and Enrich training with all perishable team members; follows up on training with all Clerks in perishable departments
  • Trains perishable department management team for continuous improvement and provide bench for future growth
  • Instills Sprouts Culture through continuous presence in stores and interactions with all Sprouts team members
  • Acts as a liaison between stores and the perishable operations Buying and Marketing teams;  ensures all Marketing and Operational directives are being communicated and implemented at store level
  • Conducts meetings, conference calls and training sessions on a regular basis with department teams
  • Provides guidance for the perishable departments, focusing on executing merchandising, marketing, performance, consistency in presentation, cleanliness and implementing all Store Support directives
  • Completes regular store visits to observe the execution and status of each store's performance, and build an ongoing relationship with store personnel
  • Assists in preparing regional reports upon request and initiates completion of company required forms and correspondence
  • Conducts monthly competition price surveys as directed by the support office
  • Reviews reports and documentation prepared and submitted by perishable department team members and directs action to ensure accuracy and timeliness
  • Attends month end inventories as needed to ensure proper procedures are being followed, identify issues and support Store Manager with the goal of providing accurate counts.Supports department managers and Store Managers in areas such as shrink control, profit and loss, staffing and training and development
  • Provides direction to departments on Sprouts safety and risk management policies and procedures, and the employee handbook; executes all safety programs and appropriately escalates any safety concerns/issues with the Store Support Office. Ensures all product recalls are executed in a timely manner in accordance with policy
  • Participates in the interview and selection process for perishable department positions
  • Responds to store needs on all emergency, loss prevention, flood and storm damage issues that can occur at any time
  • Assists in the reviews of all RMOC Audits, Health Department, and Weights and Measures visits; ensures stores are compliant, issues are addressed immediately, and violations are communicated to Store Support
  • Other related duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; prefer Bachelor’s degree in business, management, or related field
  • Two years of store management experience with multiple location oversight in the retail industry, preferably in the grocery industry; or an acceptable combination of education and experience
  • Skilled in adult learning concepts with the ability to deliver effective and relevant training.
  • Solid presentation skills; excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Cost benefit analysis critical thinking skills, and ability to solve complex problems
  • Ability to perform under pressure and maintain a calm demeanor during stressful situations
  • Capacity to motivate and inspire team; champions new ideas and initiatives
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Good knowledge of perishable practices and principles in a grocery retail environment
  • Ability to develop excellent working relationships with customers, vendors, suppliers, and team members
  • Ability to analyze and interpret financial statements; basic math skills to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, gross margins, markups, percentages and volume
  • Basic knowledge of employment practices such as recruiting, interviewing, employee relations, and performance management,; effective supervision skills, including the ability to motivate and hold team members accountable
  • Ability to maintain an outgoing and positive demeanor
  • Access to reliable transportation, auto insurance, a valid driver’s license and acceptable motor vehicle record

  • Must vertically transfer milk trays weighing up to 60 lbs., from 9” to 62”, for up to 25 hours/week
  • Must vertically/horizontally transfer boxes weighing up to 50 lbs., from 5” to 34”, for a distance up to 5 feet for up to 25 hours/week without mechanical assistance
  • Must use Pallet jack to move pallets weighing up to 1000 lbs., requiring a force up to 50 lbs., for a distance up to 120 feet for up to 1 hour
  • Must use a utility cart to move product weighing up to 500 lbs., requiring up to 25 lbs. of force, for a distance of 120 feet for up to 1 hour
  • Must use a grocery cart to move product weighing up to 10 lbs., requiring a force up to 5 lbs., for a distance up to 120 feet for up to 10 hours
  • An upper body force of 10 lbs. for up to 1 hour is required
  • Bilateral coupling forces up to 50 lbs. for up to 30 hours are required
  • Will need to use a 2 step stool for up to 1 step per hour
  • Repetitive squatting/kneeling/bending to access a point 5 inches from the floor for up to 30 hours is expected
  • Standing continuously for 3 hours, for a total of up to 8 hours, is expected
  • Will work inside controlled temperatures
  • Vision required to stock, clean, organize, inventory, accept cash, verify cash tills, and do other administrative work
