Are you a leader and subject matter expert in project management, scope definition, risk identification, methodology and resource allocation or facilitation? Lead strategic initiatives crossing business teams and operating groups as a Senior Project Manager to coordinate and complete projects, define performance and results and manage vendors and service providers. Senior Project Managers will determine time frames, funding needs, procedures for accomplishing project, staffing requirements, allotment of resources to various phases of projects and lead others in the organization to make meaningful process improvements. Developing business plans and cost benefit analysis for assessment by Regional/Senior Leadership is required. You'll investigate non-standard requests and problems, makes presentations to senior leadership, ensure project documentation is accurate and ensure projects are completed on time and within scope. Pertinent data and facts will be reviewed to identify and solve issues and mitigate risks, prioritize your work load and work on ad hoc projects as assigned.


 


Primary Responsibilities:



  • Oversee and direct a portfolio of projects, likely related to a specific business function and in partnership with a particular business team
  • Initiate scope and project documentation for all projects to be considered for management committee approval (pre-requisite to project start)
  • Determines proper project participants and ensures that all required areas are included in the project planning and execution
  • Leads master project plan creation to include key milestones, including estimation of cost estimates where necessary using the UHG IT estimation process (including cost estimates for government Change Orders)
  • Manages all project planning, progress tracking, and team coordination
  • Anticipates project risks and formulates actions to address
  • For projects that include IT, assures that all IT milestones and deliverables are met on a timely basis or escalated and participates in development of UHG capital funding request
  • Leads the stakeholder communication plan and provides status updates to management for internal and external consumption on a regular interval
  • Manages a continuous stream of team actions and communication
  • Captures, documents, and takes action to resolve all changes to project scope
  • Tracks project issues - ensuring appropriate actions are being taken
  • Responsible for project quality
  • Writes and delivers weekly status that summarizes team level detail and provides schedule and budget status and escalates significant issues
  • Ensures that a formal status meeting takes place
  • Develops strong relationship and collaboration with key/assigned functional partners
  • Travel 15-20% of time

Requirements

Required Qualifications:



  • Self-starter, with a team-oriented attitude
  • 5+ years of project management experience
  • Professional presence and sound judgment in external, governmental communications
  • Minimum of INTERMEDIATE skill set with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
  • Proficiency for problem-solving capabilities, written and oral communication skills, and organizational and time management skills
  • Must be able to travel at least 15 - 20%
  • United States Citizenship
  • Ability to obtain favorable adjudication following submission of Department of Defense

 


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree(s), or equivalent business, consulting, or operational experience
  • Familiarity with UHG IT lifecycle  
  • Certifications:

    • Project Management Certification through PMI [Project Management Professional (PMP)], or
    • Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM), or
    • IAPPM [Certified Project Manager (CPM)], or
    • Six Sigma Black Belt certification

  • Familiarity with government contracting, the U.S. Military, the U.S. Department of Defense, or the TRICARE program

 


As a requirement of UnitedHealth Group's contract with the Department of Defense, this position requires U.S. citizenship and proof of favorable adjudication following submission of Department of Defense , (the National Agency Check Legal and Credit or NACLC). Successful completion of the NACLC process is a requirement for continued employment in this role. NACLC processing will be initiated by our TRICARE Security Officer post-offer, and can take 3-6 months for a final decision communication from the Department of Defense. Candidates will be allowed to begin employment with UnitedHealth Group in this role based on an interim clearance, and final results will be communicated as they are received. Failure to obtain final NACLC approval will result in termination from this role.
