JOB DUTIES:

The duties of this position require a constituted state law enforcement officer (pursuant to 379.3313, F.S.) certified by the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission, empowered to enforce all laws of the State with full powers of arrest. Responsibilities are to protect life, limb, and property on the waters and lands of the State. Enforce fish and wildlife laws and regulations, federal rules and regulations, and boating safety enforcement. This includes, but is not limited to, regulations of salt and fresh water fisheries, hunting, and the protection of both game and non-game species of fish and wildlife. This position investigates alleged violations of resource laws, seizes evidence, makes arrests, and testifies in court. Provides general police protection for citizens and visitors who use the lands and waters of the State of Florida. This position assists other agencies, upon request, in controlling and securing areas during disasters, hurricanes, fires, etc. and is subject to call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This position requires independent judgment and the ability to apply technical law enforcement knowledge with limited supervision.

Supervise and manage law enforcement patrol activities; Ensure compliance with General Orders, legal orders, and commission policies; Coordinate with other patrol supervisors for staffing and equipment needs; Supervise critical incidents ;Manage crime scenes; Authorize seizures in accordance with state statutes and General Orders; Identify officer performance deficiencies and initiate corrective training; Recognize and recommend awards for performance; Coordinate resources regarding investigations, aviation, K-9, and other law enforcement agencies; Administer performance appraisals; Maintain two way communications between officers and management; Conduct periodic squad meetings; Supervise reserve officers within their assigned area; Identify officers with leadership traits and mentor accordingly; Review subordinate's paperwork; Ensure adherence to proper evidentiary procedures; Supervise the local field training officer program; Work to maintain a high level of morale and motivation; Inspect and ensure the operational readiness of the officers' assigned equipment; Supervisory inquires on minor incidents;

Perform routine patrol law enforcement duties; Coordinate with other FWC divisions to achieve the LE Division's mission; Adjust officers patrol patterns and schedules to effectively respond to trends and seasonal criminal activities; Provide leadership to officers in Community Oriented Policing (COPS); Maintain operational readiness for the implementation of mutual aid plans due to natural disasters, acts of terrorism, and homeland security; Coordinate/liaison with municipal, state, and federal law enforcement agencies regarding joint law enforcement operations; Direct search and rescue operations; Coordinate media relations; Maintain personally assigned equipment; Schedule allotted overtime;

Purchase supplies and equipment; Make recommendations on equipment purchases; Coordinate equipment repair with FWC mechanics and vendors; Resolve vendor issues and problems; Meet with stakeholders, special interest groups, and other agencies; Review and handle minor complaints against officers that could result in an oral or written reprimand; Initiate recommendations for disciplinary actions that could result in suspension or dismissal; Interact with regional training lieutenants to identify and facilitate training for FWC and outside agencies; Coordinate training functions with area supervisors; Ensure equipment inspections are timely and equipment transfers and assignments are current; Be a liaison with the judicial system; Work as the area supervisor when required;

Performs other related law enforcement duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Knowledge of law enforcement principles and techniques. Ability to supervise people. Ability to operate and maintain motorized equipment. Ability to read and understand complicated rules, regulations and directives. Ability to effectively communicate with the public in a courteous manner. Ability to prepare and complete written reports. Ability to perform physical labor and withstand physical exertion. Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT:

Must reside within that portion of Brevard County north of

State Road 518 and South of State Road 46.
