Registered Nurse (RN) -- Burn Unit - FT - Days

Research Medical Center is currently looking for a Registered Nurse (RN) -- Burn Unit.

Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Charge Nurse and Service Line Director, this position is responsible for planning, directing, coordinating and providing high quality, individualized patient care using the components of the nursing process.

Education/Certifications/Licenses:

Current RN licensure

BLS, ACLS, PALS. TNCC or ACTN required within first year of employment, ABLS required within the first year of employment.

Minimum 6 months Critical Care experience

Essential Functions:

Maintains strict Infection Control guidelines unique to the burn patient.

Anticipates and Prioritizes patient care needs related to the burn injury and it's progression.

Understands and Responds appropriately to the psychological issues affecting burn patients.

Understands and applies critical thinking to Fluid Resuscitation of the acute burn patient.

Maintains efficiency in the assessment and TBSA estimation of acute burn injuries.

Recognizes signs of possible child or elder abuse and reports as per guidelines.

Acutely aware and aggressively addresses pain control and management in the patient pre and post operatively.

Completes and documents acuity information.

Completes dressing changes per burn protocol and Burn Physician orders.

Complies with the Medical Center's policies and procedures

Verbalizes and demonstrates the ability to obtain and interpret cardiac rhythms and treatment of arrhythmias.

Performs hemodynamic monitoring, mechanical ventilation, arterial blood gas analysis, and defibrillation/cardioversion as well as other specialty-area duties that may require advanced training and/or certification.

Develops and implements care based on patient assessment, individualized patient care plans in accordance with standards of nursing practice.

Provides care that considers physical, psychosocial, spiritual and cultural needs of patients.

Completes initial assessment per policy and ongoing re-assessments as warranted by patient's condition.

Evaluates patient outcomes on an ongoing basis and prioritizes patient care, modifying the care plan as needed.

Documents care provided in the patient care record in accordance with policies and procedures.

Safely and competently administers pharmacotherapeutics, adhering to medication policies, procedures, practices and standards and monitors and documents the resultant outcomes based upon the patient's response to treatment. Initiates, regulates and otherwise manages Intravenous Therapy.

Utilizing a case management approach, the nurse plans, guides, directs, coordinates and collaboratively incorporates the overall aspects of patient care across the continuum.

Assesses and responds appropriately to ensure patient safety based on the physical environment, equipment and the patient's behavior.

Demonstrates critical thinking and the ability to provide care in emergency situations and follows established emergency procedures and practices.

Ensures involvement of patient and/or family in decision making process, as it relates to patient care, end of life and ethical issues.

Provides individualized teaching to patient/families and documents effectiveness.

Demonstrates competence in the clinical knowledge, skills required, and technology utilized in the department.

Answers call lights in a timely manner and responds appropriately.

Within the scope of practice, assists with coordination of student clinical experience and orientation of new staff.

Assists in coordination of student clinical experience.

Performs other duties as assigned or required.
