PPG is currently seeking a Maintenance Technician at our Batavia, IL facility for 2nd shift. The starting pay for this position is $18.00/hour.

Key Responsibilities
  • Keep machinery, equipment and plant structure in operating condition.
  • Maintain, repair, and optimize filler machines, labelers, bailers, case packers, palletizers, conveyors systems, gearboxes, Imaje coders, label mills, stretch wrap machines, case coders, depalletizers, raw material metering systems, and other related production equipment.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain machinery such as packaging equipment, gearboxes, conveyors, pumps and chain drives.
  • Read and interpret technical service bulletins and manuals to develop troubleshooting plans for problems.
  • Make repairs or escalate repair issues to enlist the expertise of vendors, contractors, or management.
  • Lubricate machines and equipment and perform other preventive maintenance (PM) work as required.
  • Assemble project parts lists and submit for quotes.
  • Provide training to others in the maintenance team on areas of expertise.
  • Maintain, at all times, a clean and safe working environment.
  • Report any safety hazards or unusual mechanical or electrical occurrence to the appropriate manager.

Within our Architectural Coatings business, we produce paints, stains, and specialty coatings under the PPG Pittsburgh® Paints, PPG Olympic® Paints and Stains, and PPG Porter® Paints brands, and service the North American coatings industry across three channels.
PPG has recently completed the acquisition of the AkzoNobel North American Architectural Coatings business. This acquisition provides our newly combined Trade organization a tremendous platform for profitable growth. This acquisition enables us to now operate in 800 retail stores, sell through over 4,000 dealer stores and supply product to large home improvement retailers, such as Lowe's and Home Depot. This acquisition also brings a portfolio of well established brands to PPG such as Glidden, Glidden Professional, Ralph Lauren Paint, Devoe Coatings and Martha Stewart Living paints; Flood, Sikkens and Synteko woodcare products; plus Liquid Nails adhesives and caulks.

Qualifications

  • One to three years experience working in industrial or manufacturing maintenance preferred.
  • Comply with all Safety Procedures (SOP’s) and Work Instructions (QWI’s).
  • Must be PC literate and able to operate computers in work areas.
  • Work productively and cooperatively with the Maintenance Manager and all Batavia Team Members.
  • Actively participate in and contribute to team meetings and activities.
  • Operating moving equipment safely.
  • Maintain accurate records.
  • Effectively utilize electronic data systems.
  • Be flexible and willing to complete other duties as assigned by management including working alternate shifts or positions.

  • Introductory electronics
  • Basic electricity
  • Basic refrigeration principles
  • Basic heating and cooling systems service and maintenance
  • Introduction to industrial maintenance
  • Motor controls – user level
  • Hydraulics – user level
  • User level competence in machine repair and able to operate shop equipment
  • Pneumatics- user level
  • Basic PLC programming
  • Basic welding skills in MIG/TIG and oxy acetylene cutting
