The Senior DBA will design, implementation and deployment of large scale web and database infrastructures that are highly available, performing, cost effective, and sustainable.Defining and delivering robust monitoring solutions for database tier that encompass both infrastructure and application level perspectives and Works closely with the application teams and project managers as programs are developed. The position helps Designing and executing data management strategies including active performance tuning of the database DB instance and processes to support true 24x7x365 operations.

You will work with IT teams and business partners to understand strategic initiatives as well as deliver leading-edge online capabilities that also support Home Depot's retail business. You will apply advanced problem-solving techniques and coordinate with other core team members to resolve system issues, maintain complex business logic and identify and implement innovative solutions.
In the role of Sr. Ecommerce Database Administrator, this person will be responsible for:
• Overseeing the design, implementation and deployment of large scale web and database infrastructures that are highly available, performing, cost effective, and sustainable
• Defining and delivering robust monitoring solutions for database tier that encompass both infrastructure and application level perspectives
• Active performance tuning of the database including DB instance, underlying OS and SAN infrastructure, and application SQL. Employ technologies such as application caching, table partitioning, compression, read-only instances, SSD storage, etc to improve performance
• Designing and executing data management strategies including purge/archival and test environment data copying.
• Planning and leading operations projects such as Holiday Readiness, performance tuning, data management, new environments, monitoring, etc.
• Providing input into annual budget planning for new database infrastructure and tooling
• Analyzing incidents, performance, metrics, and trends to proactively identify and resolve potential site issues before they develop.
This is a highly technical role. This person should possess a wide breadth of web operations and database knowledge. Must design and implement database infrastructure and processes to support true 24x7x365 operations. Expectation is no downtime for database maintenance.

The Sr. DBA manages the physical data stores for the enterprise. This includes working with data modeling and development teams to put processes and procedures in place to create new databases, replicate data across platforms, monitor and manage the databases in production, perform tuning and SQL analysis, provide space estimates and grant data level access privileges. The Sr. DBA designs, implements and supports moderate size and complex enterprise projects with minimal supervision. The Sr. DBA has solid knowledge about the specific database platform(s). Identifies, defines, and implements database backup/recovery and security strategies as well as other monitoring activities. The Sr. DBA mentors and trains other database administrators.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS -


• This role needs to be well rounded knowledge in e-commerce technology but highly technical on state of the art database platforms and infrastructures.
• Strong Java/J2EE experience
• In depth knowledge of architecting and creating Cassandra database systems.
• Experience in data modeling in Cassandra
• Must have hands-on experience in setting up cassandra cluster
• Must have experience in monitoring and managing Cassandra cluster
• Experience in Datastax Enterprise version
• Must have experience in integrated Cassandra with Hadoop (Hive or similar) for Data aggregation
• Experience in code migration, database change management and data management through the various stages of the development life cycle
• Knowledge of Cassandra systems including but not limited to: backup and recovery, security and maintenance and tuning on both server and database.
• Experience in data migration from RDBMS to Cassandra.
• Proficient with operating systems software, networking tools, application development and multidimensional tools.
• Strong communication and leadership skills to handle high-stress situations that require quick thinking and teamwork
• Large scale ecommerce or Web Operations experience a must; retail experience strongly preferred
• 10+ years of Database Administration experience
• BS Computer Science or related field
• Working knowledge of the complete software development life cycle.
• Working knowledge of relational databases, logical modeling, and data warehouse.
• Knowledge of software development methods
• Support software development post-implementation/deployment phase

MAJOR TASKS, RESPONSIBILITIES AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES -
  • Create physical database structures based on physical design for development, test, and production environments. Partner with DBA's and provide guidance on lower level projects
  • Work with system engineers to configure servers for DBMS product installation and mid-sized database creation
  • Configure and maintain DBMS product software on mid-sized database and application servers
  • Provide guidance to application development teams on DBMS product technical issues, techniques and SQL review
  • Provide on-call support for databases 7 X 24 to include being able to investigate, troubleshoot and resolve database problems
  • Mentor and train other database administrators across lower level projects.
NATURE AND SCOPE -
  • Typically reports to Manager, Information Technology
  • Responsible for helping others and providing on-the-job training or guidance
ENVIRONMENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS -
  • Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable
  • Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS -

• Must be eighteen years of age or older.
• Must pass the Drug Test.
• Must successfully complete any required training or orientation courses

EDUCATION REQUIRED -

The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a high school diplomas and/or GED.

PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS -

Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.
