POSITION PURPOSE -

The Lead Systems Engineer develops, maintains and supports The Home Depot's complex technical infrastructures, hardware, and system software components. Operates as a team lead providing expert technical direction to team members. Interface with Business Stakeholders on all complex projects. Ability to present ideas and take charge of projects. Update manager on all escalated issues.

MAJOR TASKS, RESPONSIBILITIES AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES -
  • Manage installation, maintenance and support of complex technical infrastructures, hardware, and system software components.
  • Manage and tune platforms to ensure expected availability and performance levels are achieved.
  • Provide expert technical direction to Sr. System, System, Associate Engineers and contractors.
  • Manage store & SSC engineering and roll-out implementation.
  • Perform root cause analysis for service interruption recovery; create preventative measures on complex projects.
  • Interface with Business Stakeholders on all applicable projects. Update manager on all escalated issues.
NATURE AND SCOPE -
Typically reports to Manager, Information Technology No associates report to this role on a permanent basis, but requires the leadership of a work group: assign and review work, train and contribute to performance appraisal (but not hiring, firing or disciplinary action).

ENVIRONMENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS -
Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS -
Must be eighteen years of age or older. Must pass the Drug Test. Must successfully complete any required training or orientation courses.

EDUCATION REQUIRED -
The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a high school diplomas and/or GED.

YEARS OF RELEVANT WORK EXPERIENCE - 5

PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS -
Frequent periods are spent standing or sitting in the same location with some opportunity to move about; occasionally there may be a need to stoop or lift light objects (typically less than 8 pounds).

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS -
Expert Knowledge and experience with computer hardware, operating systems and system software.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS -
Minimum 8 years of experience with server hardware, building LINUX operating systems, and LINUX administration. At least 2 years experience with Oracle Exadata hardware and Oracle Enterprise Linux is preferrred.
Strong LINUX scripting skills. Programming experience a plus.... eg AWK, PERL, C, Flex.
Working knowledge of Oracle Database Environment
Experience working on the Oracle Exadata plaform as a system administrator is strongly preferred.
Minimum 6 years experience with large enterprise-clase distributed systems.
Very good written and oral communication skills; articulation of concepts at logical and physical levels.
Working knowledge of Networking, Routing and communication between hosts is preferred.
Works well in a team environment.
Willing to work flexible hours as part of support rotation
Retail, Distribution Center, Multi-Campus distributed systems experience a plus.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND COMPETENCIES -
  • Expert knowledge of the PC (hardware and software) is essential.
  • Ability to listen to what the user is saying and then interpret what he/ she is trying to get across.
  • The ability to work autonomously and with a diverse team.
  • Ability to communicate at all levels.
