Requirements

Under occasional supervision, the Machine Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for coordinating, and inspecting the activities of maintenance personnel and directing all maintenance or repair of facilities, systems, equipment, machines, building, grounds, and cleanliness of plant areas. This position reports to the Operations Manager.

TYPICAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Plans schedules, and supervises the work of maintenance personnel involved in the clean up, maintenance, and repair of facilities, systems, equipment, and machines. Directs cleaning of office and plant areas, disposal of trash including coordination with waste hauler, and ongoing maintenance of cooling tower, air compressor system, internal electrical service, heating and ventilating, internal plumbing systems repair of equipment and machines, and maintenance of building and grounds.

2. Schedules, coordinates, and assigns work to department personnel. Establishes and adjusts maintenance priorities to minimize or eliminate down time which would adversely affect production operations. Establishes and documents preventative maintenance schedules.

3. Examines, evaluates, and trouble shoots equipment, machines, or facilities systems to identify malfunction. Directs department members to perform repair and coordinates with Toolroom Supervisor when necessary to remanufacture or rebuild parts.

4. Performs repairs to equipment, machines, or facilities systems using mechanical or electrical hand tools to adjust controls or replace defective parts. Direct and coordinate activities of others when performing repairs.

5. Establishes and maintains an inventory of repair parts, tools, and expendable supplies needed for routine building and equipment maintenance.

6. Establishes and maintains contacts with vendors and suppliers. Contacts vendors to order replacement parts, schedule deliveries, solicits quotations and evaluates proposals.

7. Performs engineering studies and evaluation of equipment capability and efficiency of manufacturing support systems when requested. May plan and coordinate facilities improvement projects such as machine replacement, heating or ventilating system upgrade, lighting improvements, etc.

8. Trains and instructs team members. Enforces Company rules through discussions or disciplinary warnings as necessary. May interview and recommend hiring, wage rates or wage adjustments. Considers employee grievances within limits specified by the union agreement and resolves matters at the departmental level whenever possible.

9. Evaluates maintenance contractors; arranges for services, and supervises timely completion of contracted tasks, such as lawn care, snow removal, special cleaning services, etc.

10. Instructs and checks to ensure that workers are following safe operating procedures and maintaining a neat and orderly work area.

11. Maintains records and files as needed to document and control maintenance activities. Authorizes overtime work subject to direction from superiors; may exercise discretion to authorize limited emergency overtime work.

12. Performs other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS:

* Degreed Engineer or Technical Training supplemented by machine trades and mechanical training with hands-on experience.
* 5 - 7 years experience related to electrical and mechanical maintenance, preferably in a plastic molding environment, plus 1 - 2 years experience as a group leader or supervisor.
* PLC programming knowledge is required.
* Experience working on CNC equipment and plastic injection molding machines is a must.
* Knowledge of electricity, mechanics, hydraulics, pneumatics, with ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics, and strong organizing and communications skills.
* Ability to integrate new controls into equipment.
