Position Overview

This Maintenance Electrician position primarily installs and repairs electrical systems, apparatus and electrical and electronic components of food processing machinery and equipment. Position also performs or assists in mechanical work as assigned.

The Maintenance - Electrician will have an opportunity to participate with others in many different specialty tasks and projects. A few examples might include participation on the Safety committee or BST teams. The plant is a manufacturing facility and technicians will be subject to performing tasks working under varying temperature extremes, some physical labor, dealing with heights, possible handling of chemicals, exposure to dust, some tasks that require use of a dusk mask, and working around a wide variety of continuous process equipment.

Principal Accountabilities:

Troubleshooting and maintenance of process equipment and instrumentation.

Procedures, policies and practices adherence and development.

Assist in assuring efficiency of operation of equipment, quality of product, and safety of all personnel.

Technician responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following tasks:

Adjust or replace defective or improperly functioning circuitry or electronics components, using hand tools or soldering iron.

Test electronics units, using standard test equipment, and analyze results to evaluate performance and determine need for adjustment.

Perform electrical inspections on AC and DC motors. Replace motors up to 200 HP.

Read blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematic drawings, or engineering instructions for assembling electronics units, applying knowledge of electronic theory and components.

Provide user applications or engineering support or recommendations for new or existing equipment with regard to installation, upgrades, or enhancements.

Perform preventative maintenance or calibration of equipment or systems.

Troubleshoots low voltage (480vac and below) systems and equipment; familiar with medium voltage systems.

Install power supply wiring and conduit for newly installed machines and equipment such as conveyors and programmable controllers.

Troubleshoot and maintain analog and discrete controls circuits

Check, calibrate, and repair process instrumentation

Install and troubleshoot various instrumentation and controls systems.

Work with technology providers to improve PLC system performance and reliability; recommend PLC and electrical system upgrade

Maintain and update documentation for the above systems (diagrams, panel drawings and manuals)

Knowledge and demonstrated previous use of Allen-Bradley programmable logic controllers and I/O

Provide timely resolution and troubleshooting of technical issues related to instrumentation and automation control systems

Work with Engineering department on electrical initiatives (i.e., bonding and grounding)

Perform electrical and or mechanical preventative and corrective maintenance on plant systems. Support area OEE initiatives for continuous improvements

Support engineering projects, validations activities and commissioning

Foster an operational culture founded on EHS and process improvement

Ensure compliance with NFPA 70E (Arc Flash).

Work with local management team to improve the preventive maintenance systems

Follow Cargill safety and food safety policies and procedures.

Perform or assist with Millwright work as required, including conveyor inspections/repairs, gearbox replacement, bearing replacements, etc.

Other duties as assigned.

Schedule Expectations:

The Maintenance 1st Class Control position is required to work an 8 hour and 12 hour rotating shift (7:00 am -- 3:00 pm, 3:00 pm -- 11:00 pm, 11:00 pm - 7:00 am), which will include nights, weekends and some holidays. Rotation between shifts occurs as scheduled. During plant start-ups, employees will be expected to work additional hours beyond the normal schedule as required. Additional hours will be required for safety & team meetings, participation in classroom type training and other necessary training.

High school education or equivalent

Journeyman Electrician or hold an Industrial Electrical Certificate from an accredited institution

Strong working knowledge of AC & DC motors including starters, speed controls, etc.

Knowledg of the NEC and local electrical codes

Ability to analyze and corect deficiencies in the operation of packaging equipment

Ability to work overtime, holidays, nights, weekends and rotating shifts

Ability to work in an environment with dust, noise, elevated work, and varied temperatures

Ability to lift up to 50#, walks, stand, crouch, climb, use hands to perform requirements of job

Ability to work with operating machinery and around heavy equipment

Ability and willingness to comply with all Cargill policies, health and safety requirements such as jewelry restrictions, the use and wearing of safety/personal protective equipment (e.g. wearing safety equipment such as hardhats, safety glasses, hearing protection, protective footwear, etc.), and following Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).

Preferred:

Minimum of 5 years relevant work experience in industrial environments

Strong experience with PLC systems (Allen-Bradley experience a plus)

Strong working experience of: Flow and Pressure Transmitters, packaging equipment and controls systems

Computer and software skills such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint

Strong problem solving and reasoning skills

Demonstrated ability to respond with troubleshooting methods under time and delivery pressure

Strong interpersonal, written and oral communication skills

Ability to read and interpret blueprint plans

Experience operating a forklift

Experience in manufacturing/production
