Description

Senior Manager, Commercial Planning

The Senior Manager, Commercial Planning role is a highly visible function with broad customer sets extending across the commercial organization (e.g., Marketing, Routes to Market (RTMs), Sales, Finance, Support Functions, Executive Leadership Team, etc.). The ideal candidate is driven, self-motivated and can work through commercial challenges, coming to solutions that progress the overall strategic direction of the organization. This role will also have the opportunity to work with the American Beverage Association (ABA) on the recently announced Balance Calories Initiative (BCI) industry effort.

This role requires strong skills in the following areas: process creation, business plan development, multi-functional relationship management, executive presence and poise, interpersonal relationship/network building, coaching expertise, meeting management/execution and an analytical orientation. This role reports directly to the Vice President, Commercial Planning. Travel of up to 20% will be required.

Responsibilities

Balance Calorie Initiative
  • Serve as key process lead for DPS’ centralized planning efforts to implement the multi-year Balanced Calories Initiative (BCI). This role will work directly with partners from the ABA and other member companies to implement the ten year initiative to reduce beverage calories in the market place.
  • Responsibilities include:
    • Drive the company-wide cross-functional process to develop and activate DPS’ BCI implementation plan and activation playbook. This covers both the national implementation as well as activation in select local markets. Process responsibilities support the development of the following: overall activation handbook that can be replicated across markets, employee education approach, communication activation plans, aligning key stakeholders in relevant local markets.
    • Provide strategic decision and analytical support for overall implementation. This includes analyzing available data to frame opportunities and/or potential paths forward. This will include some gathering and collecting data from different sources
    • Design all of the process workflows and necessary cross-functional interdependencies
    • Regularly engage and present recommendations to senior DPS leadership for key decisions
    • Serve as process point person for all BCI scorecarding/tracking efforts. Responsibilities will include (but not limited to the following): help define the metrics and work streams, assist in setting targets for key metrics, mobilize cross-functional partners to provide necessary inputs/data, provide track updates and communication, etc.
    • Serve as a key DPS commercial representative for ABA/BCI meetings


Commercial Planning


  • Drive the process that supports 2016 commercial priorities development and monthly priority calendar
  • Partner with cross-functional teams (Finance, Market Development, Sales Planning, Retail Planning, Revenue Margin Management, Marketing, RTMs, etc.) by providing process support to develop next year’s priorities and big bets
  • Assist in establishing a multi-functional, end-to-end process framework for developing commercial priorities. Framework includes: establishing work streams for cross-functional teams, gaining alignment on expectations for appropriate priorities, how to measure sell-in commitments (across retail and routes to markets) and how the organization will track in market results and course correct
  • Provide process support to enable connection between commercial priorities with Finance work streams relating to the fiscal AOP (Annual Operating Plan), GOAL Deployment (operational metrics) and incentive compensation (MIP) processes
  • Provide analytical support as needed to advance the commercial priorities
  • Develop and manage the process with organizational calendars, deliverables and initiative templates in preparation for valuation and prioritization of long term opportunities
  • Process management requires considerable change management through process and tools training, follow up on required deliverables, decision governance and support of key alignment meetings for senior leadership
  • Improve and simplify the commercial planning process, decision alignment and wiring
  • Partner with other Commercial Planning team members to synchronize efforts


Project Management
  • Manage and drive certain commercial leadership-driven projects for the organization as needed
  • May include performing high level opportunity analysis as needed to assess and help prioritize commercial growth initiatives


Business skills
  • Cross-functional leadership skills to manage processes across Dr Pepper Snapple Group functions
  • Ability to lead, influence and drive decision-making with a broad cross-functional team to ensure linkage to strategic priorities and execution plans
  • Strength in developing and enhancing planning processes to ensure complete integration across commercial functions
  • Ability and experience in presenting to executive and senior leaders across multiple functions


Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree required
  • 7 years' experience in a planning/process, strategy, or commercial role (Sales and/or Marketing role); preferably within the consumer products industry
  • 5 years' experience using advanced functions in MS Excel and PowerPoint
  • 5 years' Experience in extracting data and creating business analyses
