About this job

As a Potbelly Assistant Manager, it’s up to you to ensure that your team delivers outstanding customer service and product quality in a clean and friendly environment, while building sales and controlling costs. You will learn all aspects of our business so you can become developed and ready to move to the next step, General Manager.

There are four areas that you’ll focus on: People, Customers, Sales and Profits

In terms of People, you’ll help train, coach and develop Potbelly Associates and Shift Leaders.  You’ll also be involved in interviewing and selection, recognition and retention.  Expect to do some scheduling too, as well as providing communication and feedback to your team.  Oh, and when you run your shift, make it fun for your team, the customers and yourself!

For Customers—Make People Really Happy.  You’ll do this providing great customer service and teaching your team to do the same, promptly and effectively handling customer issues as they arise, keeping a clean shop, providing quick friendly accurate service and a fresh, quality product.  And get to know the people in your neighborhood!

As for Sales—drive ‘em!  Get out there and do some local shop marketing!   

And Profits?  Get to know your P&L!   Help control food and labor costs, monitor waste and be sure everyone’s following proper cash handling procedures. Easy,right?

Our Assistant Managers must represent Potbelly Values.  Ideally, this person will have at least 2 years of management experience in foodservice.  In a nutshell, you must have the ability to be able to manage a fast-paced, high-volume, customer-focused shop through stellar organizational skills, superior supervision, training and development of employees, great problem-solving skills, focus on cleanliness and product quality, consistency and speed of service, building sales and providing great customer service, in a fun atmosphere that you helped create.  Whew!
