Suncoast Behavioral Health Center is a private, acute inpatient psychiatric facility designed to provide quality services in a supportive environment to children, adolescents, adults, and mature adults.

JOB PURPOSE:

The Nursing Supervisor provides continuous nursing care in the assigned area(s) in a manner consistent with the philosophy and objectives of the Hospital and within the framework of established policies and procedures of the Department of Nursing Services. As a key team member in the clinical area, the Nursing Supervisor promotes a climate of effective performance through role modeling, willingness to learn and teach, and availability to patients and staff. Organizes, manages and coordinates nursing services on assigned shift as delegated by the Chief Nursing Officer.

Demonstrates leadership in organizing the delivery of patient care in an acute psychiatric setting for patients experiencing a wide range of psychiatric conditions. Supervises and coordinates the work of professional and non-professional nursing staff. Prioritizes nursing care resources to ensure patient safety. Makes effective decisions regarding patient care in compliance with facility Policies and Procedures.. Demonstrates qualities that advance high standards of care and models positive behaviors for peers and subordinates. Supervises staff in manner that maximizes each staff member's strengths and skills. Serves as a clinical resource person to staff members in their daily activities. Evaluates the work performance of all assigned staff on an ongoing basis. Remains focused on client-centered care during crisis situations. Utilizes the nursing process in the evaluation of patient issues. Maintains communication between facility Administration, Nursing Administration, and nursing staff working on alternative shifts. Maintains awareness of performance improvement programs. Assesses and approves hospital admissions according to facility admission guidelines. Represents in promotion of positive guest relations. Assumes responsibility for professional development and ongoing education. Knowledgeable of and able to implement safety education regarding disaster plan, fire safety, body mechanics, and hazardous waste disposal. Promotes a positive working environment. Supports and supervises staff, and complies with Hospital policies.

Current licensure as a Registered Nurse through Florida Board of Nursing. Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing or baccalaureate program.

Current CPR Certification.

Five (5) years of clinical experience in psychiatric nursing, including Charge Nurse experience. Must have thorough working knowledge of Hospital, Nursing, and Management of Human Resources policies and procedures, with demonstrated ability to use skills in clinical and managerial situations.

4) Must be able to comprehend and perform oral and written instructions and procedures

5) Must be able to collaborate with other multidisciplinary team members in an appropriate fashion

6) Must be capable of adapting to varying workloads an work assignments on a constant basis

7) Must have effective comprehensive reading skills, and strong written and verbal communication skills.

8) Must have math skills to enable calculation of drug dosages.
