The maintenance mechanic tests, inspects, installs, repairs and performs maintenance on all facility buildings and equipment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Performs routine testing of building, production, water, sewer, emergency, fire and safety equipment. Performs preventive and predictive maintenance on various equipment. Troubleshoots and repairs building and production equipment including, but not limited to boilers, HVAC equipment, conveyors, sortation equipment and water/wastewater equipment. Minor electrical troubleshooting and repairs such as, but not limited to, changing light bulbs, changing lighting ballasts, replacement of electrical outlets/switches. Performs minor plumbing repairs including, but not limited to repairs to faucets, flushometers, leaks in copper/pvc/iron piping, etc. Handles multiple tasks concurrently with the ability to prioritize work based on needs and urgencies. Follows standard operating procedures. Maintains, operates and secures hand tools and power tools. Maintains a neat and clean work area. Uses proper, OSHA safety methods and practices when performing his/her duties. Maintains a necessary parts inventory in order to perform routine maintenance. Performs snow removal and emergency clean-up duties as needed. Oversees the work of outside contractors as needed. Fills out detailed reports regarding maintenance repairs, etc. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

High school diploma or GED is required. Minimum of 3 years experience in building maintenance is required. Experience with conveyors and/or sortation equipment is required. Trade school education, water/wastewater operator license or a license in any of the building trades is a plus. Knowledge of the accepted practices, processes, materials and tools of the maintenance trades. Knowledge of electric motors, generators, pumps, minor electrical, minor plumbing, mechanical systems, pressure systems, water systems and other equipment related to commercial buildings and material handling. Knowledge of the servicing and maintenance on simple power, heating and cooling equipment. Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the building maintenance trades. Knowledge of material handling equipment, conveyors, scales and sortation equipment. Ability to work from sketches, drawings and blueprints. Ability to read, write and understand the English language. Ability to maintain records regarding material, equipment and repairs. Must be flexible with good social and communication skills. Must be willing to work 3:15 P.M. - 11:45 P.M.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The job duties require an employee to bend, reach, kneel, and stand for extended periods of time. The employee needs good manual dexterity. The job requires an employee to climb ladders of various lengths and sizes. The job requires an employee to be able to lift objects weighing 50 lbs to the level of the back of a pickup truck. The job requires an employee to be able to hear the backup warning equipment on trucks and lifting equipment. The job requires an employee to have good peripheral vision and depth perception.
