MENTOR Oregon supports adults and children with intellectual and developmental disabilities, acquired brain injury and other complex needs in a variety of community-based programs throughout the state. Every person needs the support of others, but we look for very special people to support individuals with disabilities; behavioral and/or medical complexities. As a Life Skills Trainer with MENTOR Oregon, you will be one of those special people.

For MENTOR Oregon and The MENTOR Network, the Life Skills Trainer is critical to our success and exemplifies the wonderful mission-driven work we do here everyday. To that end, the Life Skills Trainer position is a fantastic role to continue your career path in Social and Human Services with a myriad of career options to move up and across the organization.

MENTOR Oregon is seeking creative individuals to work as part-time Life Skills Trainers assisting children with developmental disabilities in the home and in a community-based setting. Life Skills Trainers teach the children independent living skills. This can include coaching on money management, personal hygiene, and appropriate boundaries. The Life Skills Trainers also provide positive behavior supports and teach the children coping skills. In addition to independent living skills, the Life Skills Trainers facilitate community involvement by accompanying individuals on outings in the community or providing transportation to other activities.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Bachelors Degree and 6 months of related experience in behavioral health or social services OR High School Diploma/GED and 1 year of related experience in behavioral health or social services
  • Must be available afternoons, evenings, and/or weekends
  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Ability to be an authorized driver and have access to a working vehicle
  • Must have basic computer and writing skills as documentation is a requirement for this position
  • Must be able to work independently and have good time management skills
  • Successful clearance of local and/or state background checks
